Hi I´m willing to keep in my garage any Maserati Quattroporte you find. Occasional use of the vehicle suffices me. I do not require any payment.

In the 1990s, Russia was almost bankrupt and paid her debts to South Korea with tanks and helicopters. But payment in money is always acceptable. Tanks aren't. Yes, Russia has other goods to trade in, but why would e.g. China accept deliveries of, say, rare earths as payment if they have enough of that crap of their own? There's a reason why modern economies pay in money, not in kind. And there's a reason why Mr. Putin responded to Western sanctions as drastically as he did. Russia cannot possibly maintain her economy and standard of living without access to international banking hubs.

They saw this coming... sanctions, stock crash and the whole jimbang that goes with this invasion thing.
They'll know how to deal with it.

MSM loves to lie.

To be honest MSM footage has been very limited to say there is a full scale war on . It seems to be the same footage repeated a million times by various outlets and some of it I'm very dubious of its credence / legitimacy . It's worth noting that all internet / communications in Ukraine are still fully intact and within that context information does seem somewhat limited . All I can guess is that western friendly media are in the cities where there dosent appear much happening as the Russians don't seem to be targeting civilian infrastructure such as the aforementioned communications .

why would they need to do that? it seems like a last resort. at the same time it seems like quite a few of the videos I have seen, have a fair few amount of military age men present, so it doesnt appear like they need to scrape the bottom of the barrel...

So?
It doesn't change the fact their currency is in free fall and the ability of both state and private individuals to acquire fresh money is heavily restricted.

Look, we already agreed it's a bad move. But isn't it somewhat understandable? Consider what Ukraine is up against.

Because war is a brutal affair and you need brutal men. Ukraine would not be the first nation to do it, and I know for a fact that another nation has this as part of a counter occupier strategy. You basically give them a second chance by letting them do what they do best directed to an enemy. Many would take the opportunity... now there would probably be some internal retribution, but those people are scum anyway.

I wouldn't expect it to last for the MSM. Russia seems to be turning this up a notch. I expect pro-Ukrainian propaganda to flooding everywhere soon; particularly the civilian casualty angle. Which is ironic considering Russia has been quite careful about civilians, relatively speaking.
Not that it's right or wrong. But it is what it is.

Make no mistake, this is a heavy moral burden. Though I would point to the fact that Russia has been condemned by scores of Western countries which opposed and protested against the Iraq War. I'd also say it's a bit of a difference if the victim of the unjustified attack is a democratic government targeted for truly reprehensible reasons, or a dictator who killed thousands of innocent civilians with mustard gas.

Problem is most of these dudes are in jail for a reason. Most only care about themselves; and they'll act accordingly when they get out.
These usually aren't the types with the moral compass to fight for what society views as the greater good. They'll just use the situation for their own benefit. JMHO
