Problem is most of these dudes are in jail for a reason. Most only care about themselves; and they'll act accordingly when they get out.
These usually aren't the types with the moral compass to fight for what society views as the greater good. They'll just use the situation for their own benefit. JMHO
Some of them will and some of them will see that they can go from a convict to a hero and run with it. Jusdging from the speech above, I dont think they will just open the prison and let them all lose, there will still be checks.

That's not a given.

I mean, Ukraine has produced many veterans over the years, some of whom might've gone to prison for non-violent crimes or under other circumstances which render them deserving of a second chance. The issue that I have has more to do with the blanket nature of this policy – and the propaganda value to the Russians. Having said that, Ukraine is literally fighting for survival. I'm not surprised they turn to drastic means.

Look, we already agreed it's a bad move. But isn't it somewhat understandable? Consider what Ukraine is up against.

Well, I don't know.

On the one hand we are being told the resistance is holding firm, the moral is good, Russia is getting crushed slowly but surely, the Ghost of Kyiv scored its 10th kill, etc...

But on the other; 10k rifles are being handed over to the population, molotov made by the truckload, calls for foreign intervention (ok, on that one it is absolutely within the boundaries of what is reasonable), etc... and now contemplating the possibility of letting go convicted felons who have experience with firearms.

One side is rather optimistic, the other behaves in the opposite.

We are reminded that a real leader is made of values first and foremost, and skills after. Even in his tough situation, you hear no word of hate, no insult, no belittling...

All of these sanctions are appropriate, but they are hurting the common Russian wanting to buy groceries. If you want to hurt the oligarchs, stop buying Russian energy. The insane Biden policy of stopping the production of US energy is actually financing this war. $2.2 billion per month from the US alone to Russia. Insanity.

I noticed that too, he addresses the Russian soldiers without additional hateful speech or words. Didnt even mention surrender, "drop your weapons and leave"

Dude... that's because them dumb redneck 'muricans don't want to buy electric cars!

I hope EU, Uk, Nato is planning already the rebuilding of Ukraine - hopefully we have ordered 500 JCB's etc. And Poland gets its army of builders ready.
"And we'll get Russia to pay for it!"

Because they already are.
WTF is this

If people are paid by the Kremlin to post propaganda from a "neutral" person, a Russian working for their government's propaganda machine, or stupid enough to do it for free, they should take care not to use a picture of "themselves" with the Kremlin in the background
Cute move, they were taken prisoner so if and when its all over they can go home afterwards glad to have done their patriotic duty for the Motherland. ;) ;)
Usually they send people who surrender to Siberia. With the revival of Stalin of the last few years I wouldn't be surprised if they kept that tradition alive.
And her color picture depicts an Israeli APC last time I checked Israel was not in NATO lol!
Lol what she wrote was so monumentally stupid that I didn't even notice that.
Ukraine has been under tremendous pressure for almost a decade. Pro-Russian forces could've had ousted the lawful government many times ever since, and especially over these past few days. They never did. Looks like those "pro-Russian" forces aren't as numerous as Putin thinks. Or maybe even he doesn't believe they're numerous. Otherwise he wouldn't have to send 200k troops to aid their ascension to the throne.
Russia already used combat units "on vacation" in 2014 because there were so few actual separatists led by "former" SVR that they got steamrolled by the antiquated Ukrainian army. There never was an actual urgent willingness on the vast part of ethnic Russians to become "independent", just a few paid provocateurs and easily fooled youngsters to sell the image to the Russian people.
pre invasion I think Trump would have hammered on them to present a unified face against the Putin, similar as to what happened after the invasion. Trump would have tried to make something like this happen prior to the invasion. There are a lot of possibilities, but IMHO he would have tried to be much more proactive than Biden proved. Biden showed as much leadership as a bowl of jello.
At the very least he wouldn't have taken the weekend off at the start of a war like grandpa did.
why would they need to do that? it seems like a last resort. at the same time it seems like quite a few of the videos I have seen, have a fair few amount of military age men present, so it doesnt appear like they need to scrape the bottom of the barrel...
There is no context provided for this. It might be only small time offenders and people convicted of nonviolent crimes. Or it could be Russian misinformation unless there has been confirmation by actual Ukrainian government announcements.

If they made it to France, they could join the Legion. I´m sure some crimes barr you access but robbing a bank or having been a street thug probably not.

That being said..kind of a last resort.

More African refugees are coming to Poland from Ukraine:

I think we are all getting cabin fever. This isnt a remake of the dirty dozen, could be tax fiddlers, burglars, drunk drivers, do you want to join the army, if you live, no more jail. And you help your country. I think most would take it.

How long can these tables get!

No doubt even his (ex-)wife and mistress aren't allowed to come within 10 meters ?

I'm sticking with him being in extremely frail health and it effecting his mental capacity.

That declaration of war was already past halfway towards the point where he starts ranting about Fegelein.

Because the invaders are already in your land, and would your rather have these "animals" released by Russia against your population or would you prefer to have them feel like heroes by going after the Russians.

The Ukrainians are standing firm, but even they have never mentioned that they are winning this against Russia.

You want the average Russian to be miserable, you really think riots and revilutions from within are done by oligarchs? You want their lives so miserable that they turn agains their leaders and oligarchs. You want their lives so miserable that they mutiny or just plane desert out of hatred for the war cost.

Losing a million to an oligarch is an annoyance, losing amillion to the masses is hunger and no basic necessities... which one do you think will take to the streets?

Make no mistake, this is a heavy moral burden. Though I would point to the fact that Russia has been condemned by scores of Western countries which opposed and protested against the Iraq War. I'd also say it's a bit of a difference if the victim of the unjustified attack is a democratic government targeted for truly reprehensible reasons, or a dictator who killed thousands of innocent civilians with mustard gas.
Preservation of The Russian state. Everything else is a distant 2nd.
i.e.: it can turn out to be an existential crisis for Matushka Rossiya if things aren't kept in check at the get go.
Given this backdrop, how does it matter if the adversarial force is democratic or the purest of virgins ?

About the moral burden, ye know, do we really wanna go there............... ?

Maybe we should start finding common points between Putin with Nero...

Everyone in NATO and the EU would (/does) support this as anarchists in power in Russia and the country fracturing into a patchwork of deranged warlords serves no one's interest because of the nukes.

Restoration of the CCCP no.

It’s a war crime:
