Trump is clearly the absolute opposite of the German post war norm, of economy, ahead of everything else, and of small politics, not getting engaged on the World stage. From a UK perspective, he is interventionist, so similar to Thatcher. Personally I like the idea of some action. Inaction has got us no-where for 4 years.
Trump is signalling he will get involved, giving the players time to resolve on their own. The general thrust of Trump is that its unlikely he will do anyone any favours if they dont resolve it. The threat to Ukraine is loss of USA weapons, and the threat to Russia is an increase in USA weapons. Whatever happens Trump will claim to be trying to help, and will point the finger at Ukr and Russia.
