Btw. because i didnt found another place to put it in: I wish all members, especialy the ones that support Ukraine, a good year 2024. The signs for the next year are not the best, but an old saying says: Die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt (Hope dies last) or "Be prepared for the worst but hope for the best!"

From "worlds 2nd army" to "surely we could beat Finland any day if we wanted, trust us!".

Finland has very little combat potential compared to Russia , even after the country joined the North Atlantic Alliance . This is how retired colonel and military expert Anatoly Matviychuk assessed the country’s strategic capabilities in a conversation with Lenta.ru .

“It cannot resist any of our possible armed associations and formations on the border with Finland. And we began to deploy them there, since Finland became our enemy. They certainly hope to be under the NATO umbrella. But at the same time, they must realize this: the fact is that their army has become the primary target for defeat by our armed forces, since they already affect our geostrategic interests in this region and especially the interests of the so-called Arctic issue, where the Americans are now trying establish their dominance through the help of Arctic countries such as Sweden , Norway , and now Finland,” the specialist explained. https://lenta-ru.translate.goog/new..._sl=ru&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=fi&_x_tr_pto=wapp

Potential formations include the cafeteria crew, that were left behind after the units were shipped to Ukraine.

A massive missile strike was launched on Ukraine on December 29. The Russian army launched a massive attack on Ukraine today. Cruise missiles Kh-101 and Kh-555 were used from Tu-95MS aircraft, supersonic missiles Kh-22/Kh-32 from Tu-22M3 aircraft. Iskander ballistic missiles, Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and Geranium kamikaze drones were also used. Some of the missiles were shot down, some fell on city blocks, and the video shows the fall of one of the downed missiles. The Ukrainian army announced the interception of almost all Russian missiles. The strikes were carried out on critical infrastructure facilities, the Army Academy in Lvov, warehouses and facilities in Kyiv and Kharkov, and the building of the Artem rocket and space enterprise in Kyiv. There is no exact information yet. Strikes were also carried out in Dnepropetrovsk, Ternopil, Rivne, Khmelnitsk, Vinnitsa and Zhitomir.

Right...civilian targets were hit. As high the casualty rate was in Ukraine, what a waste using "top level" russian weaponry on non critical targets. When Ukraine strikes, they sink a large ship...

I'm sipping my tea without worries. It takes Russia one year to take a fully destroyed village of 10,000 people at their current pace. The planned arrival of the famous red army should be sometime in the year 4112 then. If continental drift, climate change or an asteroid aren't quicker, that is.
That´s great. But human losses are high, and one nation only, rather unpopulated for its size, and with an alarming fertility rate is taking the blunt of it. There is just so far this can go.

Ukraine needs tech, massive firepower and asymetric tactics to fight back. The situation is not great for Ukraine, let´s not kid ourselves.

EDIT: two out of three at least

I hear you pal, but it takes a lot of money to maintain these in working order. Ukraine never had the advantages of selling expensive natural ressources to the world. They would have been parked, in a derelict state, on some runway.

A country like Ukraine needs to take a large part of their effort into asymetrical tactics IMO.

True, but the deal included guarantees from Russia, USA, and U.K. at the very least, USA and U.K. should be providing more kit, and telling Russia it’s because they broke the agreement.

If Ukraine had maintained their long range strike capability would russia have attacked a nuclear power?

If not in a derelict state probably Russia would have kept at bay altough even Ukraine would have probably thought twice about using such weapons so close to home and also envisioning a retaliatory strike. However I recall these years when nuclear weapons suddenly found themselves in the hand of new republics who had them just because Moscow had stationed them there. Kazakhstan and Belarus also became suddenly nuclear powers. I think everyone simply took a look at the situation where nuclear weapons could have been in the hands of unstable states.

Today we know better, but back then there were so many uncertainties....Russia could have evolved differently.

Given russia's extensive history no, they couldn't. And anyone thinking otherwise was naive.

russian logic. There's a deadly disease spread by mice and rats, so let's maximize contact with said animals.

👏

That was also their dinner. It was either that or an MRE which expired in 1983.
