honestly, it's borderline psychotic. The really worrying stuff is, that he gives the impression of believing in the stuff he says. Up to this conflict I saw Putin as a very rational actor, a geopolitical gamer. This makes actions predictable at least, no matter if you agree with them or not.

It's hard to negotiate or predict someone, who is living in his own world, though ... which complicated matters
Well, Western leaders give the impression they believe in the open border woke gender BS they spout too, so he's far from alone there.
He's made a blunder here, he's weakening Russia. Having invaded Ukraine he immediately lost the war, all political support in EU gone.
Russia's image tarnished, forces being put through the meat grinder in Ukraine with real losses, he's going to lose more strategic depth to the economy, the armed forces than the Ukrainian betrayal of joining an alliance against Russia would do.
Whatever about the Crimea '14 thing, that cost Russia a lot as well, for debatable gains.
Meanwhile the fool Zelensky just got a lot of his countrymen killed for someone else's war.

If this is correct then that is significant, Nikopol is 150 KM north of the Crimea on the left bank of Dnieper, yesterday i saw reports that town Enegrodar ( just across the Dnieper river on the right bank) was in Russian hands. Nikopol have 107k and Energodar 52k population.

good call. however, the Russian side (zero casualties on day one, no air defence and air force of Ukraine left) has fed a lot more fake news, so I'd rather lean towards the Ukrainian number, especially given the failure of significant operations like hostomel airfield.

yes, parts of Russian operations make it look like there was little planning, like someone shooting a flare and tell them to go. Russia cannot sustain this, there might be a chance of Ukraine actually stopping Russia.
I think Russian losses must be over 1000 - 2x il76 is nearly 300 souls. Tanks that lose their turrets, dont give the crew time to leave. Ukraine is a huge country, hopefully the Ukrainians are firing some missiles and clearing out, they have space and time, and their morale must be on the up, while Russian morale must be on the way down.

If that is true:
1. Russa can reach major towns Krivi Rog ( pop 630K) 80km west from Nikopol, and Zaporozie (750K population) 50km north east from Nikopol from right side of Dniepro.
2. All ukr forces around Mauripol will be in danger, and it will be interesting what will Ukr decide, either they will retrat them or let them to be surrounded and fight

Even the Green party of Germany is now waking up. In an interview, their chairwoman said that delivering arms to Ukraine is no longer a no-go ("nothing is impossible"). At the same time she also admitted that the German armed forces are currently "not in a good position" when it comes to readiness and equipment.

Nikopol is on the RIGHT bank of the Dnieper.
You are just poor at topography.

With armed civilians taking prisoners and all, the risk of rounding up a bystander is high. Not a good time to have the wrong shirt, do something strange or be a russian speaker only.

No time to instate a valid command.
The niceties of society, dont apply in war, and Ukraine didnt invade anyone......

And they have clearly stopped a Russian vehicle, and captured the uniformed crew. So its not random shooting of russian speakers.

Reportedly video of MLRS strikes in Kharkiv from earlier today.

Still no footage/pictures/videos of the allegedly downed IL76 (or IL76s).
The probability it actually happened is rather slim to begin with, but even more so considering it is unlikely Russia would send them 50km south of Kyiv.
It remains enemy territory still controlled and covered by Ukrainian AD.
