20th Jan 1942. The ensign of name ship of her class, HMS Queen Elizabeth, flagship of the Mediterranean Fleet, lowered to half mast for the funeral of HRH The Duke of Connaught.
At this time QE was actually disabled- severely damaged in Dec 1941 when Italian special forces penetrated the harbour defences and attached limpet mines to QE and Valiant.

USS Schofield (FFG-3) was a Brooke-class frigate laid down on 15 April 1963 by the Lockheed Shipbuilding and Construction Co., Seattle, Washington and launched on 7 December 1963. The ship was sponsored by Mrs. F. Perry Schofield and commissioned on 11 May 1968. The ship was named after US Navy Admiral Frank Herman Schofield. Schofield received four battle stars for service in Vietnam.

The small landing craft astern was designed to move the ship to present the submarine with a moving target. This view shows the second torpedo exploding amidships. Note the forestack cap blown into the air by the explosion.
