Boeing has delivered the first of 465 CH-47F Block II Chinook heavy-lift aircraft to the US Army as part of a modernization effort signed in 2017.

The ongoing Block II upgrade encompasses drivetrain improvements, a reinforced airframe and fuel system, and enhanced payload compatibility for future mission requirements.

Boeing wrote that the project addresses aircraft sustainment, enabling minimal repairs to increase the vehicle’s availability.

Joint Russian-Chinese air patrol intercepted in Alaska Today,

the Russian Ministry of Defense released a video showing a joint air patrol conducted on July 24, 2024 in the Aleutian Island chain, Alaska. The mission included two Russian Air Force TU-95M "Bear" strategic bombers and two Chinese People's Liberation Army H-6K "Badger" strategic bombers, escorted at certain times by Russian Su-30SM and Su-35 fighters.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has also released a statement detailing that on July 24, it detected, tracked, and intercepted the Russian and Chinese bombers while they were operating in Alaska's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). US Air Force F-16 and F-35 fighters, along with Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18s, conducted the interception.

Despite the presence of these aircraft in the Alaskan ADIZ, the Russian and Chinese aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter US or Canadian sovereign airspace.

NORAD intercepts bombers from China, Russia off Alaskan coast

Fighter jets intercepted Chinese and Russian bombers off the coast of Alaska from China and Russia, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) announced Wednesday.

NORAD said it detected and tracked two Russian TU-95 and two Chinese H-6 military aircraft that were operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on Wednesday. NORAD said its fighter jets from Canada and the United States intercepted the four aircrafts.

The command said that the bombers did not enter the sovereign airspace of the U.S. or Canada and that they remained in international airspace. It also said that the activity in the zone was not seen as a threat.

The command added that it “will continue to monitor competitor activity near North America and meet presence with presence.”

NORAD explained that an Air Defense Identification Zone “begins where sovereign airspace ends.” The zone is an area of international airspace “that requires the ready identification of all aircraft in the interest of national security,” according to the command.

NORAD said in May it was tracking four Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska ADIZ, saying at the time that the activity “occurs regularly and is not seen as a threat.”

Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington State

30 years after it's inactivation at Fort Ord, California. The 7th Infantry Division is back!

*Technically the 7th I.D. has been active since October 2012, however only has a Div HQ element, with subordinate brigades operationally under the 2nd Infantry Division. Those brigades are now a part of the 7th.
