The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Tuesday said it would deploy around six fighter aircraft to represent the country in the upcoming "Pitch Black" exercises hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force.

"The plan is to send in six FA-50s and one C-130 (to transport ground personnel and support equipment)," PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo said in a press briefing at the Philippine Navy headquarters in Manila.

Should this plan push through, Castillo said the PAF still has enough assets to secure the country's airspace.

She said this will be the first time the PAF will participate in this international exercise, as they have only deployed personnel to act as observers in the past.

She said more than 100 PAF personnel would join the exercise from July 12 to Aug. 2 in Australia's northern city of Darwin.

South Korea has received three multi-mission maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft from the U.S. aerospace and defense company Boeing.

The Navy announced that three P-8As arrived at the Naval Air Command in Pohang on Wednesday, with three additional P-8As to be delivered on June 30.

The P-8A Poseidon, also known as the “submarine killer,” is considered the world’s premier maritime patrol aircraft, specializing in anti-submarine and anti-surface ship operations, as well as maritime patrol and reconnaissance.

The Navy said that the arrival of the P-8As will bolster the country’s anti-submarine capabilities against North Korean submarines and enhance quick response capabilities for maritime operations and surveillance within its waters.

The P-8As will be put into service from the middle of next year after going through a year-long operational performance evaluation.

Japan and the Philippines will hold high-level defence talks next month, Manila said Friday, as the two countries seek to boost ties in the face of an increasingly confrontational China.

Japanese Defence Minister Minoru Kihara and Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa will discuss "bilateral and defence and security issues affecting the region" at the July 8 meeting in Manila, a Philippine foreign affairs department statement said.

The talks follow escalating confrontations at sea between Chinese and Philippine ships as Beijing steps up efforts to push its claims to nearly all of the South China Sea.

Tokyo and Beijing are also at loggerheads over Japan-controlled disputed islands in the East China Sea.

Japan, which occupied the Philippines during World War II, is negotiating a Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) with Manila that would allow the countries to deploy troops on each other's territory.

Ex-defence minister Itsunori Onodera, now a ruling-party member of the Japanese parliament, said Friday he hoped negotiations on the defence pact would "make rapid progress" at next month's meeting.

"We recognise the need to further deepen security and defence cooperation between our two countries," Onodera told a press conference on the last day of a five-day visit to Manila.

Onodera said he had met with National Security Adviser Eduardo Ano, Defence Minister Gilberto Teodoro and Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo to reiterate Japan's commitment to a strategic defence partnership with the Philippines.

"Japan is committed, ready to provide necessary assets to Philippines to protect Philippine security," said Yoshiaki Wada, another member of Onodera's parliamentary delegation.

Tokyo has been building the newest and largest ships of the Philippine Coast Guard, a key element of Manila's efforts to assert its sovereignty in the South China Sea.

Indonesian Su-30 attacks P-100 bombs, Sikatan Daya exercise. An episode of the 2024 Indonesian military exercise "Sikatan Daya" in Lumajang, using Indonesian Su-27 and Su-30 fighters, Russian-made. The video shows P-100 training bombs being dropped by Indonesian Su-30 aircraft from the 11th Aviation Squadron. The P-100 bomb does not have a fuse; the bomb emits smoke when it hits a target, making it easier for pilots to assess the results of the bombing. P-100 bombs are manufactured by the Indonesian company Sari Bahari and weigh 100 kg, they can be used on NATO F-5E Tiger II and F-16 aircraft, as well as Russian aircraft. P-100 training bombs are marked in blue, P-100L combat bombs in green. Also in the video you can see the in-flight refueling of two Indonesian Su-30 aircraft from a US-made Lockheed KC-130B aircraft.

Philippines:
The U.S. announced on Tuesday an investment of $500 million to finance the Philippines' ongoing defense upgrade program, supporting in part efforts to counter China's maritime aggression in the South China Sea.

The investment was announced at the two-plus-two talks held on Tuesday between the defense and foreign ministers of the Philippines and the U.S. The meeting is the fourth of its kind, but the first to be held in the Philippines, and comes at an opportune time for the country's diplomacy, after similar talks were held with Japan earlier this month.

"We're working with the U.S. Congress to allocate $500 million in foreign military financing into the Philippines," said U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. "This level of funding is unprecedented."

Touted by Austin as a "once in a generation" investment, the fund will be used to assist the Philippine Armed Forces modernization program, which gained ground in recent months as the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. shifted its focus to external defense.

The Philippines' geopolitical partners have used this modernization program to broaden their support for Manila, such as in December when Japan handed over a radar system aimed at "scoping out" threats on the horizon.

This investment comes as tensions between Manila and Beijing in the South China Sea continue to flare. They reached a peak after Chinese Coast Guard personnel, armed with spears and knives, on June 17 boarded a Philippine boat near the waters of Second Thomas Shoal and damaged equipment on the boat. A Filipino serviceman also lost a thumb in the clash. Manila called the incident "piracy" and demanded Beijing pay $1 million in reparations for property damage.

The Hyunmoo-5 ballistic missile was displayed at a military parade to mark the 76th anniversary of the South Korean Armed Forces. The Hyunmoo-5 missile system is currently the most powerful in South Korea. The Hyunmoo-5 missile is capable of carrying an 8-9 ton conventional warhead and penetrating deep into the ground, destroying underground bunkers. The Hyunmoo-5 missile weighs about 36 tons and is capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 3.5 thousand kilometers. By reducing the weight of the warhead, the missile’s range could be about 5,000 kilometers. The missile has independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), allowing it to hit multiple targets. The Hyunmoo surface-to-surface missile is considered one of the key assets in the three-axis deterrence structure against North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.

South Korean F-15Ks have conducted exercises with the Taurus KEPD 350 cruise missile, such exercises have not been conducted for seven years. It is worth noting that Ukraine is currently trying to obtain Taurus missiles from Germany. The Taurus missile was developed by Taurus Systems GmbH, a joint venture between the German company MBDA Deutschland and the Swedish company Saab Bofors Dynamics AB. The missile was developed in 1998 and has been in production since 2004. The Taurus KEPD 350 missile is designed to destroy ground targets without the aircraft entering the air defense zone.

In short, the Taurus missile is considered successful, its cost is about 950 thousand euros. Compared to the SCALP-EG missiles, the Taurus missile looks like a better product. The Taurus missile has an inertial navigation correction system using GPS. Guidance is also carried out using digital maps, which allows ignoring interference from electronic warfare, the missile flies with terrain following at an altitude of about 30 meters. Taurus KEPD 350 has a range of 350-500 km, Taurus KEPD 150 up to 150 km. The mass of the missile's warhead is 481 kg, the flight speed is 730-1100 km/h. South Korea has purchased 267 KEPD 350K Taurus missiles since 2013 to equip F-15K aircraft.

Taiwan has condemned the latest round of Chinese military drills around the self-governing island as an “unreasonable provocation” after Beijing deployed warships and fighter jets in what it described as a “stern warning” to “separatist acts of Taiwan independence forces.”

The Chinese military’s Eastern Theater Command said Monday that the drills, involving joint operations of the army, navy, air force and rocket force, are being conducted in the Taiwan Strait – a narrow body of water separating the island from mainland China – as well as encircling Taiwan.

China’s military exercises around Taiwan, a democracy of 23 million people, have become increasingly frequent in recent years and have tended to coincide with events that have angered Beijing.

Analysts said Monday’s drills were part of a general strategy of both keeping Taiwan under pressure and normalizing regular war games.

Episodes of the Vietnamese army training on T-90S tanks. Vietnam purchased the first 64 T-90S and T-90SK tanks from Russia back in 2017. The T-90SK is a command version of the tank. T-90S tanks are well suited to Vietnam with its climate conditions and terrain. The T-90 is lighter and can go where heavier tanks would get bogged down. The T-90S is an improved version of the T-90, which was created based on the needs of Asian countries. The tank is equipped with a 1000 hp V-92S2 engine, capable of accelerating the tank to a speed of 60 km / h, the cruising range is 550 km. The tank is equipped with a 125 mm 2A46M cannon. The T-90S tank is equipped with a simplified version of the Shtora-1 optical-electronic suppression system, air conditioning and an automatic target tracking system.
