TAIWAN STRAIT - The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Kidd (DDG 100) and legend-class U.S. Coast Guard National Security Cutter Munro (WMSL 755) conducted routine Taiwan Strait transits Aug. 27 (local time) through international waters in accordance with international law.

Pensacola-class cruiser USS Salt Lake City (CA-25) bombards Japanese fortifications on Iwo Jima for the 5th time since November 12, 1944. She'll expend 432 8-inch shells this day. 24 January 1945.
