RN:
Escort carrier HMS Campania as a exhibition ship for the Festival of Britain, Plymouth, 1951

HMS Campania was an escort aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy that saw service during the Second World War. After the war, the ship was used as a floating exhibition hall for the 1951 Festival of Britain and as the command ship for the 1952 Operation Hurricane, the test of the prototype British atomic bomb.

USS Milwaukee (C-21) beached in Humboldt Bay, CA after a failed attempt to rescue a beached submarine in 1917

In December 1916, while attempting to enter Humboldt Bay in heavy fog, the H-class submarine USS H-3 ran aground. After some failed attempts to tug the submarine back into deeper waters, the USS Milwaukee was sent to effect a recovery effort.
Ignoring the advice of local sailors, the Milwaukee also got itself beached in the process. While the submarine was eventually successfully recovered and returned to service, the Milwaukee was not so lucky.
A pier was built to salvage the essential parts of the ship (seen here) and the following year the ship was ripped in half by a storm. The remains of the ship are still occasionally visible today.

Imperial Japan:
Anti-aircraft battery (former heavy cruiser) Aoba lies in shallow waters after being bombed by B-24 Liberator bombers on 28 July 1945.

Aoba was stationary at the time of the attack. By this point of the war Japan was out of fuel, so the few remaining warships at Japan’s disposal were turned into anti-aircraft batteries for harbour defence against allied air raids. Ultimately it was a fruitless effort, as nearly the entire Japanese fleet in Kure was destroyed in a matter of days.
