Taliban, ZANLA, Viet Minh, IRA, Bolsheviks, Italian Fascists seriously the list goes on and on. Some of these groups were terrorist at one point, and then not at others.

Ho Chi Minh was probably best at understanding when an insurgent group needs to switch tactics from terror to open rebellion to politics.
Old IRA of the 1916-1921 vintage never targeted civilians fought a clean fight and had the grudging respect of many in the BA and RIC who came up against them, the later brands (New IRA, INLA, etc.. etc..) were just scum who used the IRA initials in an attempt to add "respect" to their cause.
I served in the Irish Defence Forces between 1976 up until 1997 most of it with a border Battalion.

Hmmmm, don't want to derail. Possibly I am conflating the Old IRA with things like the estate burnings, killings of judges, with some precursor organization's actions. Still it was indeed a very hard time. However I did mean only the pre '21 IRA and associated organizations. (They did partly achieve change that they wanted.)

Post '21, nope nope nope nope. Two very different things indeed.

According to Bloomberg the US and EU want a UN pecekeeping force in Gaza. I pity the people sent to that sh*tshow.

Can't end any other way than badly for all involved.
This moronic idea has been around at least since Obama/Kerry obsessive attempts to push Israel into national suicide by recreating Gaza success story in the West Bank.
If the international force is effective (extremely unlikely), then it becomes just another occupational force instead of IDF - so what does this solve exactly? Not to mention the purely ethical issue of other countries soldiers putting themselves in the harms way for Israel security…
If it’s ineffective (almost certainly), then it becomes another UNIFIL - yet more human shields in addition to local population. So what’s the f***ing point in the first place..?

A UN Force can only be deployed with the agreement of both sides in a conflict, Israel will never agree to it so its a no brainer/no go.

There were idiots over the years who wanted to see a UN force deployed in Northern Ireland, never happened.

^the unsaid point is-- to interfere with Israel being secure, being able to completely wipe out Hamas.

Or, color me cynical and ambivalent about the UN, to further agendas of larger world powers.

I really think the point is to appear to be doing something. Get it out of the headlines so it doesn't interfere with domestic agendas.

Actual outcomes, don't think that was considered at all.

Oh right... UN peacekeepers...

Another layer of human shield for Hamas and terrorists to hide behind.

What could possibly go wrong?

Huh, an opinion from the left that isn't straight up lunacy. I don't necessarily agree with what he says. But it isn't coming from a place of unreality. This is somebody you could disagree with in a rational manner.

A few pictures from Gaza (source - Ynet):

An IDF medical doctor.

gilad-sharon-gaza.webp

This one has a very special, grimly ironic significance. The guy in the picture is Gilad Sharon, the son of late Ariel Sharon. Ariel Sharon was the Israeli prime minister, who was the architect of the Gaza disengagement...

IDF fighter in Gaza. Love the tactical drawing on the wall.

A tanker is enjoying the pathetic BS IDF has for MRI's. Best air force in the world, best tanks and APC's, 3rd world MRI's - f***ing blows my mind...

Arjen Lubach, Dutch comedian with his own very popular "Daily Show": (he's center left, but the show is more centrist)

Are you also curious how all the radical left Hamas sympathizers and Osama letter-plugging Gen Zers will combine their existence as activist, communist feminists with life in the great European theocratic caliphate?

I'm sure the public broadcasting service will claim his account was hacked and/or he'll be forced to issue an apology.

Western politics is all about winning hearts and minds.

One of many variants of a saying goes:
A twenty year old who is not a socialist has no heart. A forty year old who is still a socialist has no brain.
Is that why NATO uses the Mozambique drill, to hedge the bets? 😇

@IDF_TANKER Does the IDF have a higher percentage of engineering troops than other armies or they just being used more extensively due to the nature of the fight? I've noticed a lot of engineering troops and actions in this operation.
