Iranian Missile Attack

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, but this is an elephant in the room, and I have not come across a lot of discussion about the following.

Why was there no attempt to interdict the Iranian missile attack on the joint Iraqi-American base recently? Were there no Patriot or SHORAD assets available? At least throw some lead up.

They knew there was a high probability there would be a strike of some sort, seems "strange" that there were no preparations made.
