Australia’s Anzac-class frigate HMAS Warramunga joined with the United States’ Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer USS Halsey and Japan’s Takanami class destroyer JS Sazanami from 17-18 February while sailing from Singapore to India for Exercise Milan 2024.
The three ships steamed in formation and practiced tactical manoeuvring, coordinated helicopter flying operations, anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare and conducted a combined five-inch gun firing.
Five personnel each from Halsey and Warramunga ‘cross decked’ during the exercise to experience life in their ally’s ship while building professional relationships.
Called Noble Dingo, the exercise was designed to enhance the three navies’ ability to operate together and was part of the Indo-Pacific regional presence deployment Warramunga has been undertaking throughout South and South East Asia.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment were led through a week of Jungle Warfare Training at Tully, Queensland. Activities commenced with basic jungle skills, and developed into live-fire jungle shakeouts.

A team of 31 gunners from the 4th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, won in a number of categories at the U.S. Army’s Best by Test artillery competition in Oahu, Hawaii.
The competition was held over a nine-day period with the US 2nd Division and 25th Infantry Division, incorporating military skills, physical activities and challenging technical artillery assessments.
109 Battery won Best Fire Support Team, with Captain Pat Glasby winning an individual award for Best Forward Observer.
Land Warfare Centre SQ Wing recently conducted Exercise ELDA, an activity aimed to test and develop trainees leadership and team work. SQ Wing conducted a pre-dawn PT session and welcomed the day with the obstacle course. In the pouring rain, trainees then participated in a series of physical and non-physical activities.
