Australian Defence Forces personnel continue to assist regional communities across Queensland’s far north devastated by severe floods following Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper in late December last year.
Commanding Officer of Joint Task Unit 629.3.4 Lieutenant Colonel Peita Fraser said the ADF had been supporting in a range of roles, including logistics and planning and using specialist aviation, maritime and engineering capabilities.
“We have maritime, aviation and logistic planning capabilities working together to support equipment movement and resupply,” Lieutenant Colonel Fraser said. With damaged roads and limited access, the 5th Aviation Regiment Chinooks and 10th Force Support Battalion landing craft have delivered commercial and military equipment to recovery teams.
“Our CH-47F Chinooks have been delivering equipment, personnel and supplies by air, as well as the Army LCM8 landing craft crew working around the clock to transport cargo by sea,” Lieutenant Colonel Fraser said.
HMAS Brisbane joined USS Rafael Peralta, JS Akebono, HMCS Ottawa and HMNZS Te Mana for Exercise Noble Caribou in the South China Sea last year.
The five ships exercised underwater warfare capabilities, maritime manoeuvres, small boat operations and helicopter flight deck training, fostering navy-to-navy ties and professional maritime skills.
HMAS Brisbane conducted regional presence deployment in Southeast and Northeast Asia, conducting training, exercises, and other engagements with Australia’s regional partners.

Exercise Thai Boomerang 23 was a bilateral air-to-air exercise between the Royal Thai Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force that enhances interoperability and builds closer understanding, friendship and rapport between aviators at all levels.
The exercise was held at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, last year.
Australia’s contribution includes personnel from No. 1 Squadron, F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft and support personnel.
