About a thousand years ago I spent a couple of days in Timor with an ASLAV set up like this. The boys showed me how the MSTAR radar worked (ours was man portable), but it was the cameras that were the real stars of the show, day and night, brilliant.

It’s the year 2123, and an ADF battlegroup is conducting combat operations off-planet against the alien predator hybrid insurgents threatening freedom on the natural resource rich planetoid Bogan Three deep in the Wop Wop Sector of the Billabong Galaxy.

The ADF battlegroup is equipped with state of the art plasma rifles in the 20 watt range, Ned Kelly Mark V exoskeletons, the latest sensor defeat technology, and the Browning Hi-Power remains the standard service pistol.

10th Light Horse Regiment conducted a live-fire exercise to achieve synchronisation of high explosive weapons and heavy machine gun fire during Exercise Waler’s Walk.
The ambush by night incorporated illumination natures that assisted the Cavalry Troop, mounted in Hawkei to prosecute the targets.

As part of Mission Jeanne d’Arc, the French ship Dixmude, a 21,000-tonne Mistral-class LHD, sailed from Toulon to the Port of Townsville. During the visit, about 120 embarked French Army soldiers conducted training activities led by 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment at Lavarack Barracks.

The training involved 10 teams with a mix of Australian and French soldiers working together to complete a 3km battle run and obstacle course, a team shooting activity with non-lethal projectiles, and a tactical combat casualty care scenario.
