A coup on Trump? Wishful thinking on your end, but zero chance of that. I'd be more worried about Xi.
Lots of whispers behind the scenes. If this all goes south, like in the next 90 days, I could see him being taken down by the military, which has a pretty hawkish faction with itchy trigger fingers lately. We'll see. Unlike the US and Europe, there is no safety net in China. When people don't work, they'll get hungry. When people get hungry, things happen. Hopefully it won't come to that. But the pressure is definitely on China. Like Bessent said, China is holding a pair of 2s.
Regarding Ukraine, as far as I can tell...this is the first time in 3+ years that there is any talk of peace, negotiations for peace or a peace plan on the table. But, you guys are too blinded by TDS to appreciate it. Like Trump started this war or something.
What Putin really wants is Crimea and no NATO membership. It could be a good plan for Ukraine. I'd say Zelensky is finished afterwards, though. But Ukraine has a chance to be developed and be wealthy, post-war. And I mean wealth for the actual people and country, not just a handful of corrupt oligarchs.
But, I get it. Trump is involved so no one here even wants to consider peace or a peace plan. It should all be dismissed. Ukraine can fight on and with enough support from it's European neighbors, will retake Crimea and then on to Moscow!!!
Anyhoo, I'm pretty sure both sides are exhausted and want peace. I'm pretty sure Europe won't spend billions or trillions supporting Ukraine if all fails. And I am damned certain that the last thing Europe wants is to defend a Ukraine in NATO, if it's not boys and girls from Kansas and Texas spilling their blood.
I think something positive will happen soon. All of you whiners had better hope so, or it'll be your asses on the line, if the US walks away.
Cheers.
If and its a pretty big if, that was going to happen, it would have been between the election and the swearing in. You declare him unfit, illegal, etc.
I think there was talk in the 70's in the UK, that the army would oust the Labour government, but as we had governments falling every 12-18 months, it never happened.
I'm not reading that there is a huge % of yanks unhappy with how its going. There might be a very vocal liberal trans crowd doing there thing, but its not a coup. I think the BBC had someone on, and asked the same question, because of a few protesters somewhere in USA.
Coup would come if there was millions on the streets, then someone has the job of telling the leader that they cannot effectively govern.
And I expect if it goes well, that there will be a good % of UK, and European voters wondering who will do what they said they would do, at the next elections. The liberal decade, fueled by cheap products from china, cheap money, is coming to an end, everyone -inc Chinese, Yanks Europeans now want good healthcare, safety etc. The 'cost' of allowing the lunatic fringe to have an equal say in running the country is coming to an end. 'For the greater good' or for the majority - i.e. law abiding, tax paying workers, is coming back around.
Ukraine, clearly no-one is willing to push russia out. Stepping outside of any peace deal, what that means is Russia's neighbours digging in, border defenses, buying top quality nukes from Pakistan/N Korea, and not trading with Russia.
If Ukraine gets back some land from Russia, then the sanctions will have to be dropped as part of the deal - no-one has to like that, but it will happen. To encourage us to then buy Russian gas in Europe, there will be a tax going to Ukraine. Outside of that, I dont think there is much Russia actually makes, maybe firewood, or toothpicks, that we could boycott.
For China, they are trying to get their own circular economy going, which will mitigate some of the Trump issues, but in reality China has built up the ability to supply a huge % of the worlds manufacturing needs. we can probably survive without a new patio set, or a new Iphone, China will try and survive, but it will be difficult for them. This will lead to some shortages in USA and EU while everyone adjusts, but not everything was made in china, and if India or Vietnam was making it, then we have the $$ to push to the front of the queue.
