INYOKSERN, Calif. (Mar. 27, 2021) A Navy CMV-22B Osprey from the "Titans" of Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30 fuels a MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter, assigned to the "Black Knights" of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 4, stationed in San Diego. The CMV-22B is the U.S. Navy version of the Osprey, a multi-engine, dual-piloted, self-deployable, medium lift, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) tilt-rotor aircraft. The Air Delivered Ground Refueling (ADGR) evolution was a first for HSC 4, en route to Naval Air Station Fallon. Air Wing Fallon is part of the predeployment training cycle for Navy's carrier air wings. HSC-4, along with VFA-2, VFA-192, VFA-113, VFA-147, VAQ-136, VAW-113, and HSM-78 comprise CVW-2 and are detached to NAS Fallon in order to sharpen their warfighting readiness through a rigorous 5-week curriculum. The training conducted during Air Wing Fallon drives air wing integration and ensures that all CVW-2 squadrons are ready to conduct the full range of military operations when they deploy later this year. HSC 4 provides vertical lift search and rescue, logistics, anti-surface warfare, special operations forces support, and combat search and rescue capabilities. In the case of USS Kidd, it's a play on the infamous pirate Captain Kidd. USS Kidd is not named for him but it's not a long stretch to use a pirate flag for the ship. Usually flown during RAS's but hey, it's good for morale ;)

Bonhomme Richard decomm ceremony

https://news.usni.org/2021/04/14/vi...omme-richard-in-san-diego-waterfront-ceremony

Interesting CO speech at the decomm ceremony for USS Bonhomme Richard today. Anybody else hear it? Sounded to me like the aviator CO blamed the previous CO for siloed departments when he took command, tooted his own horn for all his achievements including DC training for the crew, and then took no accountability whatsoever for his failure and loss of a capital ship. I liked when he credited the sailors for going into the blaze repeatedly to fight the ship, but what a tone deaf speech overall. Even spent some time sucking up by quoting the TYCO.

I hope big navy takes some time to think about why aviators are given surface commands at all. And I don’t want to hear “they have to prepare for CVN command.” They shouldn’t command those either. Why did SWOs — who came up as JOs serving on ships with all the prerequisite DC and Navigation knowledge that comes with that — give up their command of the premier flagships in our surface fleet to begin with?

In another time losing a capital ship at the pier would have required seppuku. Instead we got the self-aggrandizing speech we heard today. Call me cynical, but I heard no shame today. No acknowledgement of responsibility or accountability.

You know, this isn't the old USN which churned out leaders and warfighters by the bushelful . This is the new woketopian Navy, with emphasis transgender sensitivity and whether you quoted the US Constitution on your FB page or have ever worn a MAGA hat. That's what matters now you know. Not silly leadership concepts. Also, these flag officers are more concerned with a cushy seat on the Board of some defense company after retirement than doing the right thing in defense of the United States.

Who ever is responsible here lost a capital ship in port. Re-read that and let it sink in. People should be court martialed - and I'm talking the actual "leaders".

Also, even if BHR could be repaired for free, there isn't the shipyard capacity to do it, without taking new construction off line.

A clusterfvck all around.

And lots of people still think this fire was set intentionally.
