Off-topic, but I found it curious. Here we have already discussed what the USSR was doing in Afghanistan. Here is another example - the creation of a pioneer (scout) organization in Afghanistan, the opening of the first pioneer camp in Afghanistan. The announcer says that Afghanistan has begun an active fight against homelessness, the children of workers in Kabul have become guests of the first Afghan pioneer camp.

What is it with all those watermelons ? I get it that fruit was scarce on the front line, but still it seems to have brought so much joy to those men.
PS: watermelons are my favorite fruit, i could eat them each day 365 days a year. ?

You know that Afghanistan is an amazing country. There are high cold mountains with eternal snow, and green flowering valleys. Soviet soldiers regularly rode along Afghan roads, passing villages. Somewhere food was given free of charge (if the village was loyal), somewhere they changed, somewhere they bought. Someone, if no one saw, could have stolen, I suppose. All in all, it was a great and exotic addition to a boring soldier ration.

I live in one of the watermelon capitals of Russia - Orenburg. Unfortunately, we don't have long watermelons, but I tried these during a trip to Uzbekistan. It's also tasty, just an unusual shape.

In a few photos, the soldiers seem to be posing with pumpkins at all, lol.
