HMAS Yarra is correct mate, River class. A great idea for a thread @NebrHogger , I 'm pretty sure that research has shown that camouflage patterns on ships were quite pointless in their impact on the enemies ability to sight and then range. It was found that the various shades of Haze Grey employed by the various navies is much more effective

Thanks for these pics. USS West Mahomet is really spectacular, it gives a good idea of the purpose of these dazzle paint schemes. Any U-Boot skipper aiming a torpedo at her would be sure to suffer a tremendous headache! :D

Regarding the 1st and 18th photos, they are of the same ship, the Free French light cruiser Gloire. Phonetically, you're very close with your transcription "Gluar". Gloire had a very interesting career during WW2, a good illustration of the divided loyalties that plagued the French Navy in these times of trial.
