I was a teenager at the end of the Cold War,
So I still remember the "TASS reports" jokes,
the lesson was, the more Moscow denies something, the more trouble it is,

MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/. Statements about the allegedly ruined Russian economy do not reflect reality, there are indeed difficulties, but "there is a blessing in disguise." This opinion was expressed on Tuesday by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the words of the White House representative Jen Psaki that the United States and its allies allegedly “completely crushed” the Russian economy through sanctions.
"You can't say that," Peskov stressed. He acknowledged that "the Russian economy is going through difficulties," but added that this is also "an opportunity for development, for renewal, for achieving greater independence, for setting up new industries, and so on."
"We have a good proverb: "There is no blessing in disguise." We are trying to use the existing difficulties in our interests," the Kremlin spokesman concluded.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to an appeal by the leaders of the Donbass republics for help amid escalation from the Ukrainian side. Among the requirements of the Russian Federation are the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the neutral and non-nuclear status of this state, the recognition of the Russian ownership of Crimea and the sovereignty of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. In turn, the US, the EU, the UK, and a number of other states have imposed sanctions against Russia.
