There's a reason cavalry charges were pretty much eliminated after about mid-WW1. Orcs are soon to discover why.
They were still useful in WW2 on the Eastern Front as well for partisan operations behind the lines and reconnaissance in extreme environments.

They have lots, that's for sure. And you are correct, the USN can defend against them, until they are oversaturated or US ships and bases run out of missiles.

But I don't think the strategy will be to park a carrier battle group in the Straits of Taiwan. The strategy will be about long range kills like LRSAM packed B-2 and B-21s for example. Even C-17s with with Rapid Dragon palletized missiles. US submarines will patrol the Straits with impunity however and be untouchable. Their biggest challenge will be expending all of their ordinance in a target rich environment and having down time to re-arm.

Cutting China's sea lanes however, will be the easy part and happen on Day 1.
110 miles- transport ship 20kts is good going.

So 5-6 hours.

US Navy airpower, would need to take air superiority for say 15 minutes.

In those 15 minutes B21, B2, B1, even B52 could come from behind Taiwan, sink 30 ships and be gone.

Not to mention F22 tanked in, F35 tanked in, marines F35 etc.

I'm not doubting the Chinese numbers, and nowerdays their kit works, but tying it together, and frankly being sneaky comes easy to us Anglo-saxons.

Plus toilet seats dont cost $2000 - the US has a few aces tucked away, for a rainy day. Sorry for 'cards' reference.

US would for sure lose aircraft, and crews, and so would China. But at that point all Chinese ships are fair target. it becomes messy very quickly, nukes etc.

And your still fighting this close to mainland China, no-where near mainland USA.

Someone's point that Taiwan might merge with China, seems more likely to me. 100 years of autonomy guaranteed?

Free Speech is Free Speech. Period! Getting a knock at the door at 4 AM because you posted something on FB is not Free Speech. Going to jail because you are quietly praying in a prayer exclusion zone is not Free Speech.

Forget about Russia, we know what happens there. Western and Central Europe should not try to emulate that nor compare themselves to that.
the liberal or woke agenda has brought us all to a difficult place. USA has effectively just voted to cancel it all, and start again.

The laws we have dont work with the rights that have been granted, plus the internet to gather your data/proof that someone once said x about you.

Granting the person spoken about the right to be offended, and thus defended by the forces of law and order is massive overkill. We need to go back to sue me. Only the rich did, and spent a fortune doing so. Or some simple court with token punishment issue an apology or pay a £100 fine or something.

The Palestinian protests, undoubtable offend many jews and other people, but they have a right to protest, apparently every week.

The attraction of the USA right, to say anything, is simple to apply, and is balanced by the fact that the aggrieved can say anything they like back at the other party.

AIM-174. It's an SM-6 modified for air to air. Classified range. Very expensive. But when you absolutely, positively have to get that CCP AWACS at say, 700 miles. It won't miss. I wouldn't doubt if it has an air to surface capability either.

Yes, $2,000 toilet seats, and $1 billion dollar B2s . ;) So much money has been put into dark programs.

Are severe sanctions coming for Russia?

Bessent's comments today:

"Bessent gleefully tore into the Biden government numerous times in his remarks, especially on the subject of Russia, Iran, and Ukraine.

“A major factor that has enabled the Russian war machine’s continued financing was the Biden Administration’s egregiously weak sanctions on Russian energy, stemming from worries about upward pressure on US energy prices. In a craven political move, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan raised the Russian sanctions on the way out the door in January. What was the point of substantial US military and financial support over the past three years without commensurate and fulsome sanctions support?”"

I cant compute how stopping russian sales of gas drive up USA prices - and if they do not by much as USA is producing a lot....as is ME, and Russia would still have exported 'some' to BRICS nations.

Anyway, it seems Trump has got Europe and UKr into line, now it starts on Russia?

Should I order popcorn?

Biden and his band of woke Marxist tried to kill US energy production and as a result, the price of gas tripled, and the US was stuck buying oil internationally from unsavory actors like Venezuela. (that ends in less than 30 days, BTW)

Fun fact: The EU sent Putin 2.5 times more money for energy than they sent Ukraine in support of the war. Absolutely crazy.

Yes, get the family size of popcorn.

It really doesn't. Gas is a globally traded commodity. Unless you take the Russian gas completely 100% off the market, the effect on US prices from US sanctions is low. And now US production will likely start scaling back up to a degree.

There are of course regional elements and conditions that affect price. So if other countries were to stop buying Russian gas the effect could be larger on them.

I think your calculations exclude all the the military and humanitarian aid, so it's not as crazy.

I still frown at it, but it's some kind of a realpolitik choice again.
