So take out the Carrier and the range becomes 0Km with no communications repeater. Or do I read this wrong ?

I think they don't like any changes to their meat wave staging plans. Manoeuvering requires trained troops in contrast to unrefined frontal assaults.

An episode of the battle of the Ukrainian column of armored vehicles, which tried to enter the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region of Russia. The column, consisting of two Ukrainian BMP CV9040C, a Strv 122 tank and two BMP Marder 1A3, was moving towards the village of Vesyoliy. The column came under attack from Russian 152-mm howitzers D-20 and FPV drones one and a half kilometers from the border. As a result of the attack on the column, the Ukrainian equipment dispersed and was destroyed mainly by drones.
