It’s hard to observe these beautiful machines in this condition. But, as we can see no bodies, hatches opened, soldiers survived, that’s most important. Ukrainians even managed to tow one Leo back. This attack clearly showed that Ukraine need hell of amount of artillery and long range rockets, you guys know better. Unlike ruzzians in Vuhledar, Ukrainians penetrated defense line of the orcs and took good positions. It doesn’t look like a full scale counteroffensive, but it’s getting there. Fingers crossed
On Wednesday, June 7, after the start of the expected counteroffensive, a Ukrainian armored and mechanized column in the Zaporozhye region was attacked by Russian barrel artillery, which managed to hit one of the Leopard 2A6 tanks. This is the first combat loss of a Western-type tank from international military aid to Ukraine. The Ukrainian column, consisting of at least two Leopard 2A6 tanks, more M2A2 ODS Bradley IFV and other vehicles, was probably ambushed by a minefield near the village of Novopokrovka and the H-08 road, near the town of Orichiv, north of Tokmak. This vehicles was then fired on, probably by 152 mm high-explosive (HE) shells from Russian barrel artillery. One of the tanks was hit and caught fire, another tank was damaged and abandoned and 4 Bradley IFVs were damaged and abandoned. A BMR-2 transporter with mine countermeasures was also destroyed.

At the same time, there were also photographs of one of the Leopard 2 tank, in the 2A4 version, according to the description, heading to the fighting area.

Wow, the Russians got lucky there. At least it looks though like the armour did its job - ie protecting the crews inside the vehicles. This shelling might also have given the Ukies an opportunity for a proper anti-artillery strike in return.

That was nice to see. Armour protected crew, gets out takes cover and even throws a smoke grenade over, then the other Bradley gives fire support. Fires smoke screen picks up other crew dis-engages. Good job.

Risky firing in between the other vehicles but what can be done. There also seems to be no return fire. The Bushmaster seemed to accurately lay fire on the targets.

I havent seen any vids of russians dancing on them, so worst case they are stuck in no-mans land. Of course ukr didnt just send 1 column, on one route, in one area, given the absolute who haw the russians are making, of this, you would think they have won the war. Lets see where we are in a weeks time.

And if thats all so far it doesn't look catastrophic. Unlike RUZZian advances. Not THAT much to show off for totally successfully repelling an offensive.

Any news from The Führerbunker "zur Lage des Reichs"?

Two things are strange there:
- why did the Ukrainians decide to attack the best RuZZian units in the best prepared terrain?
- why did they sacrifice the best available vehicles that are Leopard 2A6s and M2A2 Bradleys?

I have exactly the same questions. Sometimes Ukraine is making russian-style mistake. They could’ve used 2A4 or even t64/72/80… but in that case they would’ve lost tank crew. They made also big a big mistake with Iris-T radar couple days ago. Reported losses are 13(!) Bradleys and 2 Leos.

To give confidence (very important if someone wants you to assault prepared positions in a high intensity war). And if you survive you get much better over time than your adversary only fighting once.

Experience goes a long way in combat.

The IRIS-T radar was probably used for CRAM detection or to keep the Ka52 away. Thats okay but give it a drone protection bubble at least.

The shift from 4km to about 20 km in range for sensors and effectors used by helicopters and drones needs evaluation.

Also some thoughts on a hardened, redundant battlefield control system regarding an integrated, jamming communication and surveillance system must be spent.

Alles in Ordnung. The system is still operational, as you can hear:
