Surprising. If Su-25's and low-flying attack helicopters find it difficult to survive in that conflict, how long before a Super Tucano is blown out of the sky?

I cant find this story, except the video, which is of Brazilians flying it.

But they could be useful in shooting down drones, and cheap, fast jets have a nightmare downing slow drones........

Perhaps also for training pilots before they get strapped into a missile with wings.

The US doesn't have dozens to give. They bought about 26 for Afghanistan and I think a handful remain in the US to train foreign pilots.

Only the CIA knows how many the CIA bought.

If the CIA bought them, then maybe the CIA doesn't even know. LOL!

Actually, the US Military REALLY liked the two "NASA" OV-10s they refurbished to fight ISIS. But, all the ones in storage would require expensive rebuilds and the assembly line for them is long gone. So A-29 it was.

A little surprising indeed. I would expect COIN aircraft to have a rather low survivability in a contested airspace like Ukraine. The contested airspace being one of the arguments of not sending A-10s back in the day. Perhaps they have lower threat roles in mind?

I reckon with the tactics of both airforce hugging the ground popping up and launching rockets and then diving down, the Tucano is far more survivable than say an Mi17 or Su25.

A serbian/croat pilot practicing low level flying to avoid AAD.

True too. I would assume Ukraine's territory to be rather challenging for avoiding SAMs by NOE flying as there is little to no terrain contour.
That is some very nice flying, thanks for sharing.

They can prey on the edges of the battlefield and how it looked like in many videos the Russians aren't advancing with proper air cover.

Shooting down drones is also a good task for them.

Way faster than any heli. They are as or more powerful than a WWII fighter.
