BEIJING, April 16 (Xinhua) -- China's new multi-role fighter jet J-10C began combat duty Monday, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) air force announced.

Equipped with an advanced avionics system and various airborne weapons, the domestically-developed fighter has airstrike capabilities within medium and close range and is capable of precisely striking land and maritime targets, the air force said in a statement.

It is China's third-generation supersonic fighter and made its debut when the PLA marked its 90th anniversary in July 2017 at Zhurihe military training base in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The fighter will enrich the air force's offensive and defensive system and improve its capability to fulfill duties and missions, according to the statement.

Shen Jinke, a spokesperson for the PLA air force, said that the air force will advance training and war readiness, and sharpen its striking, defensive, and air delivery capabilities.

It will also firmly safeguard China's airspace security and national strategic interests in the new era, Shen said.

The new jet is modified from the J-10 fighter jet and will help improve the air force's fighting and war-readiness capabilities, said Wang Mingzhi, a military expert.

The air force is gradually building a combat system adapted to the need of informationized air warfare, comprised of heavy air superiority fighters such as J-11 series, multi-role fighters such as J-10 series and J-16, new-generation stealth fighters such as J-20, and medium and long-range bombers such as H-6K, Wang said.

Liaoning a Type 001 aircraft carrier, is the first aircraft carrier commissioned into the People's Liberation Army Navy Surface Force. It is classified as a training ship, intended to allow the Navy to experiment, train and gain familiarity with aircraft carrier operations.

Originally laid down in 1985 for the Soviet Navy as the Kuznetsov-class aircraft cruiser Riga, she was launched on 4 December 1988 and renamed Varyag in 1990.[6] After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, construction was halted and the ship was put up for sale by Ukraine. The stripped hulk was purchased in 1998 and towed to the Dalian naval shipyard in northeast China.

Yea.. the company that purchased the ship then known as the Varyag was a proxy for the Chinese government. No doubt about it.

An aviation brigade of the People's Liberation Army Ground Force held a live-fire exercise off the country's southeastern coast on Wednesday, according to a statement from the PLA Ground Force.

The statement, which was released on Thursday morning, said multiple types of armed helicopters took part in the drill that lasted until late night at sea and verified the brigade's all-day combat capability on the sea.

WZ-19 and Z-9 attack helicopters fired rockets and missiles during the drill, which began around 9 am and concluded around 11 pm, and practiced a host of tactic maneuvers such as sea-skimming assault and joint strike.

BEIJING - A Chinese air force formation conducted island patrols recently during a training exercise with an aim of improving the ability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, an air force spokesperson confirmed Thursday.

The formation consisted of H-6K bombers, Su-30 and J-11 fighters, reconnaissance and early warning aircraft, said Shen Jinke, spokesman for the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force.

The air force will continue to carry out island patrols involving multi-type combat aircraft in accordance with an established plan, Shen said.

"The air force has the resolve, the confidence, and the ability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Shen said.

When I still see completed outdated PLa equipment like Type 59 tanks and Type 63 APCs still in service it makes me wonder if China is planning to annex Russia's territories in Siberia and Far East. Don't see a point in maintaining huge armored land forces in terms of geography otherwise.

I don't think China is planning on annexing Russia. I don't know much at all about ground forces. So I had to look this information up from wiki;

By mid-2016, the Chinese military had over 7,000 tanks in active service of which, there were about 2,077 Type 96/Type 96As and about 814 Type 99/Type 99As. Compared to the Type 99 with its high capability and similarly high cost, the cheaper Type 96B is seen by domestic experts as the main tank in the modernization of the PLA.[3]

So that makes China have about 4,000 older T-59 tanks. I have to wonder how active those older tanks are since the production of T-59s ended in the 80's.

At AARB I posted some photos of students in China doing military drills etc..etc. Military drill is mandatory in China for students from the 5th(?) grade to all college levels...check this out;

During the two-week camp participants receive training which they could not pick up elsewhere, including military physical training, formation drill, basic combat readiness training and map reading.
On a visit to the garrison,his third, Chow had a close talk with the students.

He said the PLA Hong Kong Garrison comprises highly disciplined and powerful troops,committed to protecting the people and the country.

He hoped more and more Hong Kong students can join the camp to exercise their bodies and train themselves in self-discipline.

In one and a half hours' candid sharing with the young people, Chow encouraged the youth to realize their dreams despite difficulties.
