Included in the image is the fast three-decker Bretagne, the fast 90-gunners Algésiras, and Arcole, and the corvette Monge, all of which are probably visible here. Impératrice Éugenie sailed in May 1860 for the Far East where she remained until 1867

HMS KING GEORGE V (41) was in Melbourne from October 29 to November 8, 1945, and 30,000 people visited her on the Saturday she was open for inspection. HMS KING GEORGE V (41) made a life-long impression on a boy that day who described her as 'low slung and full of menace.'

Duquesne was a Suffren-classfrigate of the French Navy. The French Navy does not use the term "destroyer" for its ships; hence some large ships, referred to as "frigates", are registered as destroyers. She was designed to protect a fleet against air threats, surface ships, submarines, and, to a lesser extent, provide firepower against land objectives.
