Should we get involved on the personnel level? We did lose many people trying to keep the peace in a region that does´nt want it.
No, we lost a lot of people "rebuilding" two "nations" that never existed as anything more than artificial constructs.

Technically any country with a fleet could.

France could, Great Britain "could" (?), European countries with a navy could. But also, yes, India, China and many others (Japan, Korea, Russia, etc...).

It's just that none of them bothered doing anything.

And the US's current stance is to be, apparently, utterly apathetic regarding anything and everything.
A combined EU fleet could project a robust AND persistent presence in the area. UK, France, Italy and others could rotate ships or even combined forces. The will is not there, however.

You are right but perhaps also because this is not be seen as the worst possible situation we will face in the coming months for an insufficient fleet that for France and the UK also stretches to the pacific.

According to what I heard, navigation in the Persian gulf is not impaired...the situation was worse in the eighties. The houthis threaten navigation through the Suez canal...this was closed for a decade until the Egypt/Israel peace accords.

Maybe Egypt wants to help to keep making money from the Suez canal passages.

What I don’t understand, is for Biden, usually deploying the military, against flip-flop militants, is pretty popular, in an election year.
It's telling that the leader of (one of) the world's biggest economic/military/political/all-f***ing-power is chosen by 300 million Americans and of the two legit candidates, one is a chicken-S**t old man who can't spell his name right and the other is a half-wit stupid f***ing spineless billionaire...

I'm not all that for coalition fleets : the Malay Barrier 1942 & Trafalgar 1805 teach us that they are not that effective... The only capable force in this respect would be a US led force. Well, just my 2 €cents ;)
This said, looks like Mr Sinwar certainly enjoyed wordly commodities . Can someone please translate the message on the Israeli flag?

It was never about involvement ... it was about deterrent...... that if hizbola or any other party "egypt,syria/iraq,jordan" decides to get involved in the war ... only then wouldve biden given the order

It could have been seen as such, but in the end it was nothing but empty posturing.

The will and a motivation to do so.

Should Europe police the area?
Why?
Countless nations have commercial ships transiting in that zone, not just Europe. Some countries are much better placed geographically to handle the job (India for instance) without needing a huge deployment to sustain a de-facto expeditionary police-force.

But policing is pointless if the root cause is not addressed. Pirates will keep on pirating and Houthis will keep on Houthising as long as they are not dealt with.
And no more of these "let's arrest the pirates and have them face a criminal court in our country".

absolutely not - we have stealth fighters and bombers, huge numbers of drones, radar, satellites and things we can only imagine. Drones can now launch smaller drones, so if we need to see inside a house, we can.

if we are 'doing things' we should fund the charities to pick up the pieces.

And humanoid robots are not that far away, so you could drop these as needed.

FFS people how many no-smoking signs would the cost of replacing 16 ships get you!?! 🤬

Iran supplying houthis are supplies not going to Ukraine or Hezbollah. And these drones will drop like flies under insect spay should they threaten merchant ships.

Apparently a relatively senior Hezzie was wacked in Lebanon. Not sure how important though...
