I haven't read the whole thing, only the beginning and skimmed the rest. It starts from a fundamentally false statement by the author (whoever he is), that Israel's goal is "to eliminate Hamas" (literally, in his own mind), which Israel cannot do, and then spends a lot of words to disprove his own fallacy.Reversing America’s Ruinous Support for Israel’s Assault on Gaza - War on the Rocks
Since the brutal attacks by Hamas on Oct. 7, I have been filled with a familiar sense of dread as the Israeli government has squandered the sympathy andwarontherocks.com
Virtually every single time an Israeli official says our goal is to dismantle (notice, not to "eliminate", the word choice is very much intentional) Hamas, it's followed by explanation that what it means is 1) no ability for Hamas to govern, 2) no Hamas as a serious security threat (command and control, infrustructures etc). That's it. The only people who are to be actually eliminated are the ones on the list of directly involved in the 7/10 attack. And even then there is a public awareness of the possibility, that we'll have to spare some of them to get our hostages back.
I mean, just f***ing google it:
(INSS is a most prominent security mainstream/establishment think-tank in Israel, de-facto semi-official advisory body for Israeli gov.)The objectives of the Swords of Iron war, as defined by the government of the State of Israel, is to destroy Hamas’s military and governmental capabilities and to create a new reality in the Gaza Strip whereby Hamas is unable to regain control – and to ensure the return of the Israeli hostages.
We are not f***ing stupid over here. I'd say even, arguably we have a little bit better grasp of reality, than yet another "expert" over the ocean. What I invariably find fascinating about people like this is the sheer intellectual arrogance powering the idiocy of their "analysis". What is the vantage point he has (he thinks) to offer us his cherished wisdoms, I wonder...
Also, just of curiosity, why you figured this "opinion" is of any importance to anyone? Do you find it relevant/poignant in some way?
