Well the one at Bruntingthorpe that is supposed to fast taxi only caused quite a stir when it did get airborne a few years back!

Also spent a horrible weekend polishing the victor gate guardian at Marham when I was a naughty sprog years ago...!!! A lot of polishing!
Is the base still manned or are the current generation of Airmen there too busy with Instagram, Tinder and various other social media to be out doing things to in turn be "Awarded" time cleaning it?

Marham still has that Victor, and a Tornado as gate guards, and is now home of the F35.

On the latter point, spookily enough, a few of my wayward airmen have just been tasked with the refurb of the two gate guards at my current unit. So yeah, I still have to dish out the punishments.

On 21 May, the F-35B Lightning II aircrafts of 617th RAF "Dambusters" Squadron landed at the RAF Akrotiri air base in Cyprus.
"Lightning Dawn" is the first combat mission of British 5th generation aircraft outside the British Isles. It is highly likely that for six weeks planes will support the international operation "Inherent Resolve" on Syria and Iraq.

Couple of pedant points if I may....

There is no 617th Sqn, the junior Sqn is 617 Sqn. Pronounced six one seven. And for reference IX(B) sank the Tirpitz, not the junior Sqn.

Also, they won't be joining in on Op Shader, this is purely a test deployment.

Information from the website of 617 Squadron:

- Will be based at RAF Marham from mid-2018
- One of the most famous RAF squadrons following the Dambusters Raid.
- Former aircraft flown include Lancaster, Vulcan B.2 and Tornado GR1.
- The RAF's first multi-role supersonic stealth aircraft.

It made me somewhat misleading, but thank You for the correction and information about the purpose of ferrying to Cyprus.
I apologize for the mistakes, my English is still very poor.

I've never seen one of those before, great looking bit of gear. I see none of the 5 survivors are flight-worthy, that's a shame.

It's all on the interwebz -

I think it actually led to a CAA investigation - technically it flew without an airworthiness certificate. Quite illegal by the letter of the law.

Some more Royal Cold War beauties.

@Devil Child Should you ever get to the UK, I think the RAF Museum at Cosford in the West Midlands is the only place where you can see all three V Bombers - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_at_the_Royal_Air_Force_Museum_Cosford

Lots of other Cold War stuff there too, not just aircraft.

I've not actually been to the museum since the late 90s and I think it's changed a lot since then due to lottery funding, certainly the Vulcan and TSR2 were outside then (Devil Child, I forgot to mention they've got a TSR2!).

Oh, and the last time I went on the piss in Wolverhampton I ate a burger at the end of the night that gave me food poisoning to the degree that I missed a wedding the next day. Good luck!

I first visited it in about 1995. It has massively improved and expanded since then, as you say with lottery money.

As to Wolves....the thought doesn't fill me with excitement, but beers is beers.
