The 2nd Cavalry Regiment turned up the heat and was exposed to the jungle operating environment at Tully Training Area.
Cavalry troops completed a 12-day training package which culminated in a 48-hour full mission profile using dismounted and mounted force elements to hone their skills in an austere environment.
Exercise Pacific Protector featured multilateral conferences, a table-top exercise, a live exercise (LiveX) and a port exercise demonstration. It was a collaborative effort involving the ADF, Australian Federal Police, New South Wales Police Force, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Republic of Korea Navy, Republic of Korea Coast Guard, US Navy and US Coast Guard.
The LiveX provided valuable training opportunities for personnel to develop visit, board, search and seizure skills, and strengthen interoperability.
Soldiers from the 2nd (Australian) Division completed the direct fire support weapons training course at Cultana Training Area.
Personnel trained with various support weapons, including mortars, machine guns and anti-tank systems like the Javelin.
Soldiers from 5th/6th Battalion, The Royal Victorian Regiment (Reserve) are up at Puckapunyal this weekend for the annual Champion Section Competition.
Arriving back to Amberley this week after being on exercise in Townsville were EA-18G Super Hornets, "COLT" (A44-212, 210) and "CANNON" (A44-205, 217, 214, 216)
