Silvershield is the latest variant of vehicle mounted force protection systems provided to the Afghan National Defence and Security Force under the Australian Defence sponsored Redwing Program.

It is designed to counter radio-controlled improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and is undergoing final test and evaluation on Afghan National Defence and Security Force tactical vehicles for subsequent manufacture and delivery later in 2018.

The Australian-made device can protect vehicles from radio and mobile phone-triggered IEDs and was designed by the Defence Science and Technology Group in conjunction with the Joint Counter Improvised Threat Task Force.

The submarine HMAS AE1 and its 35 crew members went missing in September 1914. One of the first allied submarines lost in World War I, the fate of the AE1 was Australia's oldest naval mystery until it was finally located after a 103-year search in the waters off Papua New Guinea in December 2017.
