The Agency for Purchasing, Technology and Logistics (ALTA), subordinate to the Japanese Ministry of Defense, published a video of testing an electromagnetic gun, which is being developed by the research institute of ground equipment. It is reported that the energy of a shot of a prototype of an electromagnetic gun reaches 0.75 MJ, which provides a flight speed of 2230 m / s for an ammunition weighing 0.3 kg.

South Korea:
The arms procurement agency said Friday it has signed a 985.7 billion won (US$853 million) deal with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. to build a new 3,600-ton-class submarine capable of firing submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs).
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration signed the contract Thursday for the second unit of three Changbogo-III Batch-II class submarines that South Korea plans to build by 2029. Construction of the first unit began just last month.
Carrying 50 crewmembers aboard, the 89-meter-long and 9.6-meter-wide submarine will be equipped with improved combat capabilities to better detect and target enemies and partially powered by a lithium battery, the agency said.
It will be designed with nearly 80 percent of its component parts made locally.
The new submarine is also expected to have 10 vertical launch tubes for SLBMs, up from six equipped in the 3,000-ton-class submarine.

South Korea has become the world's seventh country with an indigenous submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), as it succeeded in an underwater test-launch from a submarine, Cheong Wa Dae announced Wednesday.

President Moon Jae-in inspected the firing at a local test center of the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), hours after North Korea lobbed two ballistic missiles into the East Sea.

The SLBM was fired from the 3,000-ton-class Dosan Ahn Chang-ho submarine at the ADD Anheung Test Center in South Chungcheong Province.

U.S. Fighter Jets Will Operate From Japan’s Newest Aircraft Carrier, the JS Izumo

U.S. Marine Corps F-35B fighter jets will take off this year from an unlikely location—the deck of a Japanese aircraft carrier.

The carrier, Izumo, is the country’s first warship capable of operating fixed-wing airplanes since World War II. Izumo has recently emerged from the first part of a two-part refit designed to allow her to operate F-35Bs. Japan has up to 42 F-35Bs on order and is conducting refits on Izumo and her sister ship, Kaga.

Izumo will operate the Marine Corps F-35B fighters for an undisclosed amount of time (it will not be a full-fledged deployment), while Japan waits for its own fleet of F-35Bs to arrive sometime in the next five years.

On October 6, 2021, a ceremony was held in Yangon for the handover of the first four ships and boats for the newly established Myanmar Coast Guard. Patrol ships and boats (American "gunboats" of the PGM-39 class) are transferred from the presence of the Myanmar Navy.

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) is looking at the possibility of acquiring heavy-lift helicopters as part of efforts to beef up its helicopter fleet.

"There is a project for heavy (lift) helis (helicopters) but this is still being worked out by the TWGs (technical working groups)," PAF spokesperson Lt. Col. Maynard Mariano said.

Mariano, however, declined to provide further details.

"I cannot identify the helicopters that are being looked into, again, it is still with the TWG for their assessment," Mariano said.

Earlier reports said one of the heavy-lift helicopters being looked into is the twin-engine Boeing CH-47 "Chinook".

He clarified that on the eve of five ships of the Russian Navy and five ships of the PLA Navy passed through the Tsugaru Strait, heading from the Sea of Japan to the Pacific Ocean. Japan has launched the second of a new class of diesel-electric submarines exactly one year to the day that the lead boat of the lithium-ion powered series took to the water.

The new submarine, which has been named the Hakugei, or White Whale, was launched at Kawasaki Heavy Industries shipyard in the city of Kobe on Thursday afternoon Japan time. The submarine will now undergo final construction and sea trials before commissioning into the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force or JMSDF, which is planned for March 2023.
