Two Australian vessels – the ANZAC class frigate Ballarat and the support ship Sirius – will be deployed to the search area on Friday and Tuesday respectively.
Officials say the submarine was build to dive down to 250 meters and also she will run out of oxygen today :(
The operational depth is given as 250m but will be much deeper in reality. The crush depth for the Type 209 is over 700m. The lack of air is what's going to do them in

A naval vessel detected an object with "strong magnetic resonance" at a depth of 50 to 100 meters.

Type-209 submarine Nanggala, hull number 402, currently missing and subject of a SUBSMASH operation

NB:
It seems that the Indonesian authorities have confirmed the sinking of the submarine. Nanggala appears to be lying imploded on the seabed, about eight hundred meters deep ( 2600 feet ).

So lying imploded around the same depth as it's rated at. I'm guessing that rating is only accurate if the sub is properly maintained(?) which has been a problem in the Indonesian navy for years. Could be that it suffered a problem that led to the implosion prior to reaching crush depth.

Imploding is better than suffocating I guess ...

RIP

Unfortunately the Type 209 is a single hull sub with no internal compartmentalisation, they are open from bow to stern so any uncontrollable water ingress anywhere in the boat is fatal

RIP

Very sad to hear. May those sailors rest easy.

What I don't quite understand – why were so many people on board in the first place? The U-209 class is designed to be serviced by a crew of 33.

It was undergoing training exercises, the additional crew are probably there to observe. Indonesia has 3 more subs incoming

At least the poor devils didn't have to slowly suffocate to death like many submariners throughout history. And the sudden pressure differential would've killed them long before any of them even got the "chance" to die by drowning.

The £3bn warship, with eight RAF F35B stealth fighter jets on board, will depart for Asia from the city’s naval base in May.
She will be accompanied by six Royal Navy ships, a submarine, 14 naval helicopters and a company of Royal Marines.

The Carrier Strike Group (CSG), which will carry out visits to India, Japan, South Korea and Singapore, will also include the US destroyer USS The Sullivans and the Dutch frigate HNLMS Evertsen.
A squadron of 10 US Marine Corps F35B Lightning II jets will also be embarked on the carrier in what the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is describing as the ‘largest concentration of maritime and air power to leave the UK in a generation’.

Clashes began late on Wednesday along the frontier between Tajikistan's northern Sughd province and Kyrgyzstan's southern Batken province because of a dispute over a reservoir and pumping station, claimed by both sides, on the Isfara river.

Residents on both sides threw rocks at each other before the fighting escalated when both sides began exchanging gunfire on Thursday, according to the security agencies of both countries.

Philippines: (?)
Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd has announced that it has signed a $200 million contract to provide unmanned aerial systems (UAS) services to an Asian country for IAI’s Heron unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). IAI says that this is the fourth major UAS transaction that it has completed this year.

The Heron family leads IAI’s range of UAVs and the various Heron models are used regularly for operational missions by over 20 customers worldwide. Controlled remotely from sea frigates or the seashore, the Heron supports ground and maritime missions against submarines and coastal guards. The UAV transmits information while at sea, including between all the weapon systems participating in a mission. The Heron UAS may be fitted with LOS or SATCOM communication, and features "long runner" operational flexibility with automated remote takeoff, landing, and control with no need for deploying a control post near the runway.
