Sherman Ic Hybrid Firefly tank armed with a 17-pounder Gun, 8th Princess Louise (New Brunswick) Hussars, 5th Canadian Armour Regiment, Putten, Netherlands, 18 Apr 1945. Firefly crews attempted to disguise the length of the 17-pounder gun barrel to confuse German anti-tank gunners by fitting a false muzzle brake half-way up the barrel and painting the forward portion in a counter-shaded pattern.

"A stunning image of the deaths of three brave airmen of Bomber Command was recorded by the camera on the following aircraft”
The date is June 16, 1941 and the location is near the island of Borkum, in the East Frisian archipelago off the coast of Holland.
A Bristol Blenheim Mk IV of 21 Squadron, piloted by Sergeant E. Lever, has pressed its attack so low, that its port wing has struck the mast of an enemy radio-equipped picket ship, known as a “squeaker”.
Lever’s Blenheim has shed twelve feet of its wing and spun completely around to face the oncoming aircraft. In the distance, the lead Blenheim can be seen flying away.
A moment later, the Blenheim hits the water killing Lever and his two crew members, Sergeant I. Overheu and Sergeant J. Phelps.
The “squeaker” was sunk.""

A soldier of the 51st (Highland) Division..."HD"...examines the 28mm projectile of a captured German sPzB 41 or "Panzerbüchse 41", somewhere in Sicily, July 1943.
Both AP and fragmentation rounds were produced for this weapon.
This lightweight anti-gun had a removeable wheeled carriage.
It worked on the squeeze-bore principle.
Variants were fitted in both armoured cars and half-tracks.

Allied troops inspect an KO'd and abandoned Semovente da 90/53 in Sicily, 1943.
This was a lightly armoured, self-propelled tank destroyer which mounted an effective 90mm A/A gun on the modified chassis of an M14/41 tank. However its design meant the crew were somewhat exposed to incoming fire.
Some 24 Semovente 90/53s saw service against the Allies with the 10° Raggruppamento Semoventi, which was stationed in Sicily during the Allied invasion of the island.
Numbers were also commandeered and pressed into service by the Germans following the Italian armistice.

Watched by a crowd of locals, a British Sherman III tank passes through the Sicilian town of Francofonte, during the advance on Messina, 10 July - 17 August 1943.
However, their efforts were resisted by German Fallschirmjägers (II./FJR 3) in and around Francofonte who succeeded in delaying the British advance for two days.

The unmetalled Sicilian track crumbled under the 30+ ton weight of this British Sherman III (M4A2) causing it to crash through the low stone wall and roll over. The fate of its crew is not known.
The tank would probably have been righted by an ARV and taken back to a REME base workshop for damage assessment and possible repair.
