France, June 1944: Young soldiers of the 12th SS Panzer Division "Hitlerjugend" handing out sweets to children in a French village. More than 16,000 teenagers from the Hitler Youth were transferred to this SS division and fought in Normandy with just 6 weeks of basic training. As the soldiers were still too young to smoke and drink alcohol, they were given chocolate and other sweets as an alternative to their rations. At some point they got so tired of all the sweets that they exchanged them for red wine and cigarettes with French farmers, or gave them to children.
The pictures of them spraying the King Tiger are interesting as the 'thinner' for the paint was anything they could get their hands on - sometimes even petrol - not to be tried indoors............
This is interesting about the colours used
U-110 attacked convoy OB-318 on 9th May 1941. She was depth charged by the convoy escort, HMS Aubrietia, and forced to surface, resulting in her capture.
