Even today The "Sally Man" shows up close to the front edge of the fight to dole out a hot brew and biscuits, a friendly chat and a care for the souls of soldiers

New Guinea Campaign. Timbered Knoll, Orodubi. 29 July 1943. Private W. H. Dawson, 2/3rd Commando Squadron, in the process of attacking Japanese pillboxes which were holding up the Australian advance. Private Dawson was awarded the Military Medal for this action.
