7 May, 1942. 2 Dakotas of No. 31 Squadron, the only transport sqn in Burma at the time, were destroyed on the ground at Myitkyina as they prepared to take off with evacuees. Flights continued later that day; a DC-2 with a capacity of 21 seats took off over 60 passengers.
