1930 Japanese army, women's battalion. One of the exercises for developing discipline and endurance is a stance with a raised knee. As the legend says, it was necessary to stand like this from an hour until the commander gave permission to put feet down.

Was it normal to salute with the left hand in Japan or is the picture reversed??

Soviet single sniper of a separate platoon of female snipers of the 3rd Belorussian Front, recipient of the Order of Glory; one of the first female snipers to receive this award. She was known for her ability to accurately fire at moving targets with a doublet - two shots following each other. 59 confirmed enemy kills.
