Lots of photos online at the minute of really rusty USN ships across the globe, what do you make of it? Too busy for preventative maintenance? Nothing to worry about? Just curious....
Until popeye gets here, I heard t's because of environmentally friendly water based paints and the crews aren't allowed to paint at sea, in case some paint chips/residue ends up in the ocean. Really stupid.

I'm not sure what sort of paint the USN is using these days. I doubt if it is water based. But I do know painting the hull at sea is verboten. Also the corrosion/rust you see is just surface corrosion. Easily treated.

As stated what you see is just surface corrosion. Easily treated. again painting the hull at sea is forbidden. The battle against surface corrosion is never ending. This is a link to NAVSEA : Cleaning and Painting Requirements;

Diehl (T-AO 193) aboard the Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Linn was a part of the first all-female underway replenishment rig team in ship’s history, composed of twenty-one Sailors assigned to Deck Department. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of its allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
