Politics Tariffs/Trade Wars

If tariffs add 10% to the imported option, in an otherwise equal market, the local guy can increase his prices by 9%……

Probably not quite that much (for them wanting to be clearly cheaper option), but this is how you end up with increased prices due to tariffs across the board.

US folds and lowers the tariffs to 30%. For at least next 90 days.

I guess the reality was setting in.

• Trade war breakthrough: The US and China agreed to drastically roll back tariffs on each other’s goods for an initial 90 days, de-escalating a punishing trade war and buoying global markets. By May 14, the US will temporarily lower its overall tariffs on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%, while China will cut its levies on American imports from 125% to 10%.

Art of the deal implies you got something in return. What did you get? Only a ceasefire to a trade war you started or?

We don't know the details yet, do we? But what we might know is, China agrees to open it's home markets to US products, China agrees to end fentanyl production, (we'll see), and all other tariffs on what the US considers to be strategic products, ie.; steel, pharmaceuticals, etc., remain.

You guys should look up the definition of "deal".

Explain how you define that as "US folds"

US stated just, was it last week, that it won't lower the tariffs.

And here we are, very close to the starting point (didn't they start from 30%?).

Deal where you walk back is still a deal.

If I'm not mistaken, China said the same thing.
