The 10 day war July 1991

Slovenia was first to split from Yugoslavia. (Fyi this is where our First Lady is from)

Pics of the early formed Slovenian army/police
In early day, not Army but Territorial Defense elements (that became the core of the follow up Slovenian Army)
There are pictures of Army elements but they are from the JNA (the third one in instance is a mechanized element of the Yugoslav Popular Army)

Good pics. Thank you. Hvala.

Was in Croatia in 2014, got pretty close to Bosnia (Plivitze falls) and the bullets impact are still omnipresent. Pretty disturbing thinking what happened there then.

Everyone like a fine Balkan vacay. Sorry to disrupt, carry on with more pics.

You are correct Mordoror, the third pic I put in by mistake. I did not notice it, sorry but I put early formed army... because it was their army at the time. From this they evolved into more structured forces like the last picture which was their official army uniform worn just post war.

Oh & yes... the army started from these guys, the TO (Teritorijalna Odbrana) which was under the then Yugoslavian military (JNA)

No worries friend. The organization and aspect of the various elements during Yugo war were such a clusterfuck that a female cat woudnt recognize its kitten. Carry on the good job. I am pretty familiar with those picts but a bunch of people are not.

Just for the sake of accuracy, TO while integrated in the YNA Orbat were pretty much independant units mainly depending of their respective republics organ of command and very loosely from the true army structures. Much like a kind of State National Guard

if soviet not fell or putin had power,i think yugoslavia will not fell.

Huh? Yugoslavia has always been a distant "socialist cousin" to the USSR. not part of the Warsaw Pact. Putin's grip on power has been driven by high oil prices of the early-2000s. Sorry, but I don't see your argument being valid.

He had somehow a point though. The general western interventionnism post 1990 was driven and helped by the lack of a counterbalance block.
A living SU or stronger russia may have limited NATO meddling in the Balkans....like it did recently in Syria
A living SU may in fact have avoided or delayed the yugo civil war cause all the communists that turned nationalists and fed the flame of war would have probably stayed good yugo comies brothers

Sorry guys but after Tito died nationalism took over & spread like a wildfire. He had a grip on the country like the other communist countries. I was there many times, my parents are both Serbian & I attended Tito's funeral & viewing. I have experience on both sides, pre & post communism. I know how it all changed. The Serbian chetnik movement exploded. Photos were brought out & it was talked about by many but before that it was all about partisans not chetniks. The Croats got bolder, Slovenians split & so on. My dad & his freinds spoke out much more than ever after the 1980's

It’s true that in this regards, Tito was a blessing despite his regime being a communist one. Well said yankeebobb.

Very true but look also how the things unfolded
Once the SU block began to disolve itself, nobody needed Yugoslavia anymore
Hence central banks stopped loans, people went poorer and poorer and the crooks in power shifted from brotherhood socialism to populism to keep power (and that was true in Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia)
The richest republics (Croatia and Slovenia) didn't wanted to pay for their poorer southern brethen
Serbia didn't wanted to share power
And all went down the drain
The basis is again money, power and political idiots on all sides who made promises to keep their shares and idiots who eat and digested those promises and went to spill their blood (and the blood of their neighbours) for some 100-200-300 years ago misdeeds.

Communist mostly in name and symbolism (at least post 1950s after he cleaned the country from opposition, sometimes brutaly)
It was an odd (while functionning) mixt of communism and market/entrepeneur state that worked somehow (but not without external money)
Plus the guy had balls of steel and a deep disdain of politics based on ethnicity. Which was the only way to keep the country together (as shown afterward when ethnicity/nationality became the political flag of all the 90s crooks that followed him)
