Russian forces setting up head quarters in a church = war special military operation crime. Says Russia.

The Russian Federation’s Military Manual (1990) states that “the bombardment by military aircraft or vessels of historic monuments [and] churches … which are undefended and not used for military purposes” and “the destruction of cultural property, historical monuments, places of worship, and other buildings which represent the cultural or spiritual heritage of a people” are prohibited methods of warfare.

They’re on to us. Dammit all to hell! ??
Seriously, is this something that the average Russian hears and then takes as fact?
I wonder how they’ll explain the thousands of dead/missing young men? Will the Russians accept those explanations, as well?

And before Ivan&Mordoror ask for evidence, I haven't even watch the video, nor I have plans to do so.
I had the misfortune to watch the video.......this guy would be the most deserving of a bullet to the head.
You cant really prove that he did that to an Ukrainian child, but to whichever child he did that he needs to "go". He should not be part of society because he will continue to do that to children wherever he is. Absolutely disgusting. If I was a Russian officer and he was one of my soldiers I would make sure that this guy returns only as a cargo 200.

Russia had a pass, when it withdrew from the North, could have said, really sorry, military exercise went crazy, we shot a few generals, all good, here's some free gas.

But no, now they literally want to go all in, tank v tank etc. So even though they have been met with savage resistance, and those at the top now know this, they STILL want to have another go. You have to question the mental situation of the leaders in this.

So yes, I would literally provide everything Ukraine wants. There should be no problem sending the older LEo2 and Abrams, and if they want them 100 challenger 2's from the UK. If other countries still have T72 etc, then yes these would be easier to use, but the old NATO countries should not hide behind the newer ones, on this issue.

I love all the games set in Russia, @HAL9000 mentioned Stalker, love it - AS A MAKEBELIEVE f***ing GAME! Not in reality, and this is what Russia has created in the areas it invaded.
In theory giving the Ukrainians what they want makes sense.

Abrams / Leo Armchair theory
In practice giving them Leo or Abrams means supplying this in chunks that can keep a unit all the way into and out of an operation. I know a very thin slice (and that slice is woefully out of date) of what it takes to keep a unit equipped with Abrams and ready. It is a non-trivial commitment of trained technicians, supplies and spares, and a trained and experienced troop operating them that knows when something has gone wrong, or is about to go wrong.

Then, in order to really make use of an Abrams troop, the cooperating units, and command, need to understand that Abrams troop. They need to be able to communicate and work together effectively based on a realistic understanding of the multiple elements involved.

Is this doable while still in this active phase of the current engagement. Yes. But from the day that Ukraine commits 1000 personal out of combat, to the day they come back from a crash course in how to do all of the above, about 3 to 6 months. End result, a very small force of Abrams (probably 12 to 24 actual Abrams) that have a shot at being integrated back into a parent Ukrainian unit. We would have to provide the field logistic vehicles (and replacements) in that group. Depot maintenance would still have to be back in an unnamed country (coughpolandcoughcough).

Alternative T series effort Armchair theory
The Ukrainians have previously done upgrade work on T-series. They fully understand the requirements and capabilities for operations and sustainment. Unfortunately much of their ability to do this manufacturing work has been degraded. Could we provide repositioned workers a depot space and tooling to do this work? While the West attempts to source all of the parts, and recruit other TCN that also have these skills to help at the depot?

This sounds faster and more effective on many levels during active combat.

After Active Combat

A completely different game. Leo or Abrams could be on the table if Ukraine desires to go that road. After this engagement Ukraine will have to assess what industrial armor manufacturing capability remains and what direction they want to go. At that point if they wanted to be Lima/Rheinmetall East, the US could and should drop billions to make that happen.

I think they should stay out of MGCS because as we all know that will be a circus. We haven't even named all of the clowns and the monkeys are still in basic flight training. Something great may come out of MGCS, but the first decade will make a Wes Anderson film look coherent.

Overstuff 6 out.

"8 to 80" is the age that Soviet troops are said to have targetted women for rape in Germany and Central and Eastern Europe. Vasily Grossman, a Soviet propaganda writer said this number was optimistic.

I think it would be better for Ukraine to upgrade existing designs if enough of their manufacturing capacity survives, or produce T-84 Oplot-M using NATO standard ammunition in large numbers. With western funding they could really make steps there. Alternatively sending something like Leo2A4 or M1A1s and having them work out their own upgrades with Western funding could work too. Either way besides funding western countries can also help provide the tooling. Introducing a new western tank right now would take 4-12 months in the most optimistic scenario during which a unit is completely out of action. That's not something that Ukraine can likely afford. I wonder how many ex-tankers and support staff there are in Ukraine that haven't returned to service yet. It would be easier to train them first since they already have affinity with tanks rather than drawing from active forces.

The west ambitious authoritarian regime engagement policy is passed tense. But it took halfway through a kinetic war to get them to decide.
The idea that its just Putin is also as problematic.

Eh, to be fair, you got the same Nazi problem in every society. In Greece it's partialy rooted in the fact that they're kind of slowly becoming another European thug den. Despite the indeginous folk making up the vast majority of criminals, ofc it's only the "others" fault from such ppls POV. In the end they themselves, as with every other society, are their biggest enemies.

Thankfully I don't have a twitter account. Anymore. (need to log in).
I would get banned here as well.

Germans hoped to import Russian Germans, but they imported Russians in fact:

One of the slogans in the second photo says:”I will always be proud of my nation” and they attribute this quote to Kadyrov. As it’s A. H. Kadyrov, it must be Ramzi’s father.
