Thats going to need more than 1 roll of speedtape!

did anyone suggest the Su25's were being hit, but making it back? Thus the Ukr figures might not be far off?

Oh yeah, I did.
Benefits of two engines - but fair play to the pilot, it must have been like flying a brick with that amount of damage

Not going to be a five-minute fix

Must have also been at some height as well - as a hit like that at low level should have been catastrophic

Having a close look at it, the damage on the tail looks more like AAA rather than a MANPAD ?

Any hit on the front of the air intake would blow out the back of the engine - and you only need one blade to be hit with something relatively small

Engines suck air through, so the damage on the blades indicates a front strike rather than a rear strike

All moral and ethical considerations aside, I've been thinking a lot about the reasons the Russian military failed and blundered so much throughout this entire affair. I don't like the approach of some commentators to go "hurr durr Russians and their tech suck" neither do I like absolving Russia's leadership of their obvious shortcomings, so I went on a search for some answers and came upon this very interesting analysis (video below) by a guy who knows what he talks about and stays in his lane of expertise.

Very nuanced and on point in many regards, certainly not 100% but nobody in the world ever has 100% of the knowledge required to give an analysis, so here it goes:

That plane is done... they might try and fix it for propaganda but other than that, it will not be contributing to the war effort.

I think you're being a bit optimistic there. During the Iran-Iraq War, Iran took crashed F-4 Phantoms that looked like they were totalled and put them back into the fight after repairs using stockpiles and some creative engineering.
The Russians who are the OEM of the Suchois and have a much broader industrial base than Iran in the 80s will have this bird flying again in a matter of weeks.

I wonder how difficult it will be to integrate all of these non-Ukrainian speakers into the defense of Ukraine?

I've read that the volunteers are gathered into units of like speakers and leaders are Ukrainians that can speak that language

Iran was desperate, well I guess so is Russia. i've flown planes that had airframe damges that were repaired by OEM, they were never the same afterwards. They can probably get it flying but we are talking months, if they rushed it. Hell even if we go by weeks, do the Russians have that time?

Over 1000 built, that one, to fly 'safely' needs a lot of work, and yes would need to go back to the manufacturer, to essentially be rebuilt. Russia doesnt have the time tight now, so it is out of this war - hopefully. So a success for Ukr. And of course the Su25 is the Russian A-10, built to survive such a hit.

I'd ask to be paid weekly @Rohme
@Rohme You may well react with smileys but the fact is that you're doing exactly what you've accused members like @Musashi of (and more): posting a selection of snippets from carefully picked Twitter feeds and news articles that paint a very one-sided narrative. And you'll have to forgive others for thinking that you're not doing this in the pursuit of truth and for the sake of balance. The other "one-sided" contributors to this thread are motivated by their being abhorred by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. What motivates you, I wonder?

yes, but to be fair, he kind of is the mirror of Musashi and Cemal Pasha, the propaganda "bot" from the "dark" side.
Personally I would prefer this twitter spam to be reduced in general. I find myself turning to reddit forums (sic), since they seem to have less of a spam momentum than this thread here.
But if we are to go along with 100 selective tweets a day from a single person, I guess we should be okay with both sides picking their tweets.

The moral reason of trying to support Russian invasion here is a good question, though, since calling invaders "liberators" is quite a moral stretch to me and makes me cringe. If he'd stick to "DNR soldiers claimed to have taken town BZZ" it's okay. "DNR soldiers liberated" is not just morally more than questionable, it's delusional, since obiously there is hardly anyone who wants to be liberated.

Granted, the word "to liberate" is tainted from other conflicts, but this doesn't make it more right here. So I'd second the question @Rhome and @sepia about your personal motivation. Mind you, not taking a pick at you, it's genuine curiosity.

Ref. 'foreign legions' active in UA;
Is this effort and participation recognized by their respective government ?
If not, why not ?
Could it be that such recognition means their welfare fall on state should legionnaire get KIA/WIA/MIA ?
All of sudden, all effort towards UA war effort seem to have fizzled out.
Training and expedition prep. could be done in home country, instead of these troops getting nuked while attempting to do same in UA territory.
Even if not home country, could still be done in neighbouring states like PL or SK.
Fog gets thicker with each passing day.

Never realized my posts would stand out sore this way.
All I see is material touting invincibility of UA forces, and yet RU keeps forging ahead with each passing day.
...so, thought let's focus on, and post news a tad more global, and that's what you guys see.
My casting the 10080056th stone at Putin isn't what this forum is about, is it ?

Bringing human cost into such discussions, both cheapens and confuses matter, essentially saying " here, grab another stone".
