Deck handling ratings dive out of the way as a Seafire crashes into the deck park of HMS Indefatigable, April 16th 1945

This split-second picture captures the crash of Seafire NN208 of 887 squadron piloted by Sub-Lt L.A. Bradbury, which bounced over all arrestor wires and barriers before smashing into a parked Avenger and Firefly.

The pilot escaped without serious injury but two deck hands were thrown overboard, one of whom was tragically not recovered. NN208 herself was a complete write-off and later dumped overboard
