I think the timing is intentional. The IAF is busy over Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Jemen. I don't see them having the capacity to meaningfully deter Iran as well at the same time and also the Americans are holding Israel back. They know they can get away with it without serious repercussions.

This has been said and proven wrong about Israel before ...

In any case their missile options at that range are limited (western countries really need more long range tactical and theater ground based missiles imo) and I don't see the US doing anything besides assisting Israeli air defences.

The New York Times quotes three Israeli officials saying the anticipated Iranian attack will include drones and missiles, as well as a US official anticipating ballistic missiles. It says the attack is expected “in the coming hours.”

There was no direct clashes with Hezbollah operatives amid any of the raids.

I find it hard to believe that there were no direct clashes when raiding close to 1,000 fighting positions, storage dumps, OPs and bunkers.

Of course shooting/stabbing/strangling someone without them even knowing what's happening doesn't count as a direct clash ... ?
