According to the Pentagon an Iranian drone struck the oil tanker Chem Pluto off the coast of India. The Japanese owned and Dutch operated vessel was struck 200 nautical miles (370 km) from India. The Indian navy dispatched an aircraft and ship to the vessel and the coast guard is escorting the ship.

On Dec. 23 the Norwegian tanker Blaamanen and the Indian tanker Saibaba were attacked. The drone narrowly missed Blaamanen while Saibaba was struck. USS Laboon fended off an attack aimed at itself.

Meanwhile Operation Prosperity Guardian continues to crumble. Greece is concerned about escalation. Italy wants to keep it's ship(s) under it's own command, France wants to keep it's ship(s) under it's own command and only wants to protect French shipping and Spain only wants to take part under specific conditions (let me guess, enforcing a no-fly zone over Israel? )

Generally the operation not being under the UN, EU or NATO is seen as a problem.

US once again is expected to do the actual job. Trump should start by limiting US troop numbers in Europe and removing support from operations. Criticise the US when they're putting their people in harm's way for your security = no more US support for you, not even under Article 5. Either pay up or shut up.

Next time there's a crisis in Europe the US should offer to send over a dozen chaplains for moral support.
