OK, here's a really stupid question. Right now, it looks like our brilliant leadership in the West is dragging us into WW3. WTF are these governments thinking when they are openly screwing with the people who will have to do the fighting, make the materials, and ship the materials? Don't they think that, at minimum, their workers/soldiers won't be as efficient, and, at worst, it also could open up the opportunity for someone to install a little local resistance? If war breaks out and these truckers don't ship food, fuel, or parts, it won't end well. Note how Hitler was able to get substantial support in the Ukraine because the communists had treated the Ukrainians so badly.
if World War III breaks out you put the loudest ones up against the wall, boom bullet in the head, or because we are not in Iraq 15-20 years in prison, problem solved.
pour envourages les autres-pardon my french...

Martial law, martial law. A battalion of the army pulls out, they get ten minutes to go home.

Or the Russian way - you enlist them, then you put them in a minefield.

It's a clear message.

I don't understand the question, though, because World War III would last about an hour.

and to compare the Canadian government to Hitler's invasion of Ukraine is, I think, a case of mental illness

So... wait... I’m confused.

Is Canada’s Freedom Convoy a “small, fringe minority” or is it an “urgent and critical situation” that “seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians” requiring new powers under the Emergencies Act?

We went from 'ignore the fringe minority" to invoke War Measures in three weeks.

This act was meant for solar flares, coups, and invasion, not for boomers blocking a road. Existing laws are enough to deal with the problem.

All this against protestors who burned down zero buildings and looted zero stores.

Ironically enough, the communist party of Canada counter-protested. You would think that communists would at least be neutral regarding a worker's movement they didn't like.

Incidentally, Trudeau is proving to be much more like Hitler than Trump ever was.

Historical reminder, that Hitler managed to persuade Hindenburg to enact the Reichstag Fire decree, which effects were, among other abolishment of civil liberties including right to speak, assemble, protest and due process.
With that emergency decree in place the Nazis were able to intimidate, harass, arrest and purge anybody deemed a political enemy.

Clearing the political scene of any opposition, Hitler therefore secured his government would be able to act without concern to the Constitution.

Trudeau used his state-funded media to dishonesty portray a peaceful protest as a violent insurrection so that he could enact the emergencies act, seize bank accounts and private property with impunity. Chrystia Freeland stated yesterday that the Trudeau Government was broadening Canada's "terrorism financing" rules to include cryptocurrencies and crowdfunding platforms, thus allowing banks to freeze personal accounts of anyone linked with the protest without any need for a court order.

History doesn’t repeat, but it tends to rhyme.

As per the Canadian Civil Liberties Association:

The federal government has not met the threshold necessary to invoke the Emergencies Act. This law creates a high and clear standard for good reason: the Act allows government to bypass ordinary democratic processes. This standard has not been met.
The Emergencies Act can only be invoked when a situation "seriously threatens the ability of the Government of Canada to preserve the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Canada" & when the situation "cannot be effectively dealt with under any other law of Canada."

After watching Trudeau the first thing that came to my mind was the burning of the Reichstag

Excellent response. I had planned on writing something similar, but not quite as articulate as your reply. Unfortunately, I didn't really get a chance to do anything non-work related all day, including during lunch. I swear I feel like the Shell Answer Man sometimes.

For those too young to remember the Shell Answer Man:
