Social distancing????? We're testing but think we may be the only one's. A few folks inside a transport aircraft with covid is a nightmare we're worried about. We're vaccinated & were glad to do it.
Mike -- appreciate this post, even more so 2+ weeks after you originally made it. Too bad the Biden Administration wasn't on the same wavelength. I told a buddy to come to this site and read this thread, and opined, "How is it that a bunch of military enthusiasts have been posting a running tally of open-source material regarding the Taliban's progress in AFG for the last 8 weeks or so, yet our nation's leadership (NSC, DoD, DoS, IC, etc.) acted like this was some big surprise? Surely the Intel could not have been faulty? Surely we had plans in place to evacuate citizens from NATO and Afghan allies? Surely someone had to be yelling, "Look! We must act now!!!"???? I hope the historians get the analysis correct.

Kind of hard to believe the Biden Stooges and their comments this past week, from POTUS himself to SecState and SecDef, when you see this simple graphic . . .
At least the taliban appear to be following the US CDC social distancing guidelines before they asploded. We have a fairly recent Christmas card list/grid of their training & HQ camps. Someone should also tell them not to store their bombs where they sleep [secondary explosions]. We can work at night buckwheat.
Though the issue isn't flight capacity, since around 5k can be airlifted per day just with USAF assets right now.
The issue is that it's impossible for people to get to the airport since crowd control and security are being handled by the Taliban.
State Department officials serving in Kabul sent an internal memo to Secretary of State Antony Blinken warning of the potential collapse of the capital soon after the Aug. 31 troop withdrawal deadline.
The French military came prepared right down to soldiers with beards, head dress, taliban dress & they're going in & getting their people from the surrounding villages & bringing them back for the flights to Doha. Spain's doing it just like we are. Not sure why the American's are not. The secure perimeter of KBL is nothing but a kill zone patrolled by gangs of taliban thugs. There will be American hostages [Tehran 1979] before this os over View attachment 329099
Its interesting right? One can say that the French due to limited resources as an empire learned how to mingle and be invisible in different parts of the world so that their forces actions goes un noticed or is not seen as a threat. While the US is used to operate in a manner that involves air ops, spec ops and full battle rattle. So the French can move more freely.... but.... but... BUT...
I'm in a country where i know for a fact the US forces move and act in low vis. Basically using their immigrants as point people for missions without disturbing the localities or raising alarm. So its either the US commanders in these parts is more on the ball in terms of what they are doing and the ones in A-stan used to lick walls to see if it tastes good... or there's orders from up top not to make a move. (Either due to sheer ineptness or theres background dialogues with the talibs and they are working on a less abrasive deal)

Due to the size of the mission in the Middle East and North Africa the USSOCOM presence has been far larger for a long time than it will ever have been in the Philippines. The number of personnel and available assets is so much larger that I can imagine that things become routine. Every problem starts to look like a nail so you use the same hammer. I can recall concerns coming out of Special Forces Groups about the types of missions they were conducting which was almost exclusively just the one: Direct Action.
No thought process other than do we hit it with a drone/air strike, with special forces or both?
Smaller numbers mean more ingenuity is required. Whether that's due to a theatre being seen as secondary, because nations have limited numbers to work with, or do not have the transports available to move them into position rapidly enough.

The deal with the taliban is no American soldiers outside KBL. Pretty sure the taliban are afraid of their soldiers that kicked their ass for 20 years. Rightly so Americans don't want to screw up the thin ice agreement. Denmark, French, Germany have all offered to pick up Americans, we have a good system that works with good safe meeting places. There are no taliban or crowds @ any embassy this morning. Communications are still working & everyone outside are kept up to speed on conditions. Overflights continue just in case but things are kinda sketchy.....& 2 more weeks of this is gonna be ruff on people.
Biometric collection and identification devices were seized by the Taliban last week.
theintercept.com
Taliban have reportedly seized US military biometric devices that can scan irises, fingers, and faces, which could help them identify Afghans who assisted coalition forces.
The devices, known as HIIDE, for Handheld Interagency Identity Detection Equipment, were seized last week during the Taliban’s offensive, according to a Joint Special Operations Command official and three former U.S. military personnel, all of whom worried that sensitive data they contain could be used by the Taliban. HIIDE devices contain identifying biometric data such as iris scans and fingerprints, as well as biographical information, and are used to access large centralized databases. It’s unclear how much of the U.S. military’s biometric database on the Afghan population has been compromised.
