Should this thread be renamed to “Taliban won”?
So what’s next? Anyone got any genius predictions of the near or distant future for the region?
Hopefully a glowing one

Well, now afghanis became a free nation! My prediction the region will remain same shithole as it is now. Probably a bit more stable shithole without destructive US influence.

We failed - you failed - US failed

Perhaps it's time for China to step up and have a go

Stable, like it used to be before 2001? Do you even history, bro?
US helicopters over Kabul evacuate personnel from US embassy.
It is somewhat sad to see history repeat itself, hope after further US empire decline we will have a chance for a better world.
What on earth are you rambling about? The Taliban taking over Afghanistan is making way for a better world? If the Soviets hadn't attempted to install a Communist dictatorship in Afghanistan, causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians in the process, who knows where the country would be right now. A wee hint: It looked better in 1969 than it did in 1989.

Even Communist dictatorship would be a giant step forward for Afghanistan. Look at the post soviet central asian countries - not the greatest place on the planet, but far better then Pakistan or Afghanistan. Civilian deaths were a result of US support of Islamic terrorist groups, same with civilan deaths during US occupation of Afghanistan. It's only the USA politicians fault.

a) Islamic insurgency originated during Daud reign after he deposed Shah and begun implementing secular reforms long before Soviet intervention
b) Soviets had nothing to do with April Revolution 1978
c) Americans were the ones actively supporting armed Islamic insurgency out of which Al Quaeda and Taliban came into being

Start learning history for F*** sake...

Stable like any country where civil war has ended. Because US support of one (weak) side of the conflict has ended.

Fall of Saigon as it is. The parallels are staggering...

Careful about this, China being an Asian country doesnt give a f&*k, bro.
"We have killed all infidels in this country and raped their loved ones"
"Cool story bro, you want this bridge built or not? If yes, the go jihad somewhere else"

Note almost no comments coming from US officials. Sometimes silence speaks volumes. ? ? ?

Biden is on a 2 weeks vacation, he stated he would not take responsibility.
Psaki said the Taliban had to assess what role they would play in the International Community.
Blinken and Canadian Garneau congratulated themselves on how they "reached diplomatic solutions in Afghanistan" (in other words: we had a nice zoom session during which we talked a lot about stuff, we enjoyed a lot hearing ourselves talk).
And some spokeperson for some department I can't remember right now said the US would keep its embassy in Afghanistan (though it got evacuated a few hours later).

And Robert Gates stated Joe Biden was failure when it comes to foreign policy, underlining Biden had been wrong on everything for the past 40 years.
And Obama also warned people to not underestimate Joe's ability to "f*ck everything up".

Incidentally, the USSR collapsed only two years after retreating from Afghanistan. With the current US administration, and the effects of its policies at home and abroad, it may not collapse in two years bu it sure is moving the goalpost a lot closer.

Turkish army still in Afganistan.. Everyone in Turkey wondering now; Would Taliban shoot one of our 650+ personel in airport or would Turkey become first country to recognize Taliban?. In short, huge concerns in Turkey. I bet thousands of Afgan army unit's also seeking refuge in Turkish barracks right now. Us is like joke losing nearest base near to China etc. 60k Taliban destroyed 120k Afgan armed forces in week's. Vietnam (Saigon), Kurds(used as meatshields in Iraq and Syria), Turks (supporting PKK backstabbing with F35 program etc) and now Afgans. No one will ever trust USA in future. My future prediction probably EU will form new type of NATO etc. US doesn't care it's Ally's anyways. Imagine Us suddenly retreats from Baltics etc.

as apposed to the peaceloving 'holiday club' that the soviets sponsored........

As the brits found out in 18th century, its a shithole, USSR and USA cant say we didnt tell them.....

As to the future, fly a few drones, give them some rules about behaviour once they leave their country, and leave them to it, if they break the rules they get zapped.

Oh and sponsor education inside and outside Afghanistan.
