The ships and aircraft of two U.S. Navy aircraft carrier strike groups conducted joint exercises over the last three days. 3 Nov 2023

The Gerald R. Ford strike group is comprised of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 2, the Information Warfare Commander, and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60).

The ships of DESRON-2 are the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Ramage (DDG 61), USS Bulkeley (DDG 84), and USS Paul Ignatius (DDG 117).

The Dwight D. Eisenhower strike group is comprised of the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN69), the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), the guided-missile destroyers USS Mason (DDG 87) and USS Gravely (DDG 107) of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22, and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3 with its nine squadrons.

HMS Forester was an Acheron-class destroyer and was present at the entry of the Allied Fleet through the Dardanelles on 12 November 1918. The painting is of that operation.

Laid down 1898, launched 1899, completed 1900. 810t. 2x4.7in, 4x57mm guns. 1x15in torpedo tube. 20.5 kts. Fourth ship of the Ornen class. Small, relatively fast vessel straddling the line between torpedo gunboat and third class cruiser, her 12-19mm deck armour would seem to place her in the latter category. Became a cadet training ship in 1927 and served as such for the remainder of her career. Stricken in 1937 and sunk as a gunnery target in 1939. Sister ships Klas Uggla wrecked in 1917, Klas Horn stricken 1923, Ornen and Jacob Bagge stricken in 1947.

INS Sharda, the pride of the Indian Navy, joined forces with the assets of National Coast Guard, CGS Barracuda & Maritime Air Squadron’s Dornier Aircraft, for a Joint EEZ Surveillance mission.

As part of her ongoing deployment to the Gulf of Guinea, INS Sumedha undertook Maritime Partnership Exercise MPX with Ghana Navy Ship GNS Garinga. Communication exercise, navigational manoeuvres and Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure VBSS ops conducted.

Belgium, Netherlands & Germany:
The Louise-Marie benefited from replenishment at sea during Exercise Joint Warrior. An impressive procedure which required maximum concentration from the crew so that the refueling went as smoothly as possible! The FGS Spessart, a supply ship, supplied the Louise-Marie at the same time as the HNLMS Van Amstel.
